About the Role
Contemporary Tiny Homes is looking for an experienced S-1 licensed HVAC professional to help install HVAC systems in our ADUs, in-law suites, backyard homes, and small residential projects.
This is a part-time, project-based role for someone who already works in HVAC and has some additional availability to take on well-organized residential jobs. The ideal candidate may already work for an HVAC company, run their own HVAC business, or have an established HVAC background and want additional high-quality work on the side.
We are not looking for an entry-level technician. We are looking for someone experienced, licensed, reliable, and capable of helping us install clean, professional HVAC systems in compact residential homes.
What You’ll Work On
Our projects are typically ADUs, backyard cottages, guest houses, in-law suites, and small residential structures.
Depending on the project, HVAC work may include:
Installing ductless mini-split or heat pump systems.
Running line sets, drains, electrical coordination points, and related components.
Installing ducted or compact HVAC systems when required by the design.
Coordinating with our project managers, electricians, plumbers, inspectors, and other trades.
Reviewing HVAC layouts and field conditions before installation.
Helping identify practical installation solutions for small residential spaces.
Completing work cleanly, safely, and professionally.
Supporting inspections, startup, testing, and final completion as needed.
What Success Looks Like
Success in this role means showing up when scheduled, communicating clearly, installing systems correctly, and helping us keep ADU projects moving without unnecessary delays.
We value people who are practical, experienced, and solution-oriented. Our jobs are smaller than large custom homes, but they still require care, coordination, and good workmanship.
You should be comfortable working independently, coordinating with a project manager, and helping us solve normal field conditions without drama.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate:
Holds an active Connecticut S-1 HVAC license.
Has strong residential HVAC installation experience.
Has experience with mini-splits, heat pumps, and compact residential systems.
Already works in HVAC or owns an HVAC company.
Has part-time availability for supplemental project-based work.
Can coordinate professionally with project managers and other trades.
Understands the importance of clean installs, code compliance, inspections, and customer-facing workmanship.
Is reliable, responsive, and organized.
Can work efficiently without needing excessive supervision.
Requirements
Active Connecticut S-1 HVAC license.
Residential HVAC installation experience.
Ability to install HVAC systems in ADUs, small homes, additions, or similar residential projects.
Comfort working on active residential construction sites.
Ability to read basic plans, layouts, and equipment specifications.
Strong communication and scheduling discipline.
Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
Own basic HVAC tools.
Ability to work legally in the United States.
Nice to Have
Experience with ADUs, in-law suites, additions, modular homes, or small residential construction.
Experience coordinating with electricians, plumbers, inspectors, and general contractors.
Experience with high-efficiency heat pump systems and ductless mini-splits.
Ability to provide your own insurance if working through your own company.
Availability for occasional weekday site visits, inspections, or coordination meetings.
Compensation
Compensation is $65–$85 per hour, depending on experience, availability, licensing, tools, insurance, and whether the arrangement is structured as part-time employment or subcontract work.
We are open to candidates who want consistent part-time work, supplemental side work, or project-based work through their own HVAC company.
