About Duke University Hospital

Pursue your passion for caring with Duke University Hospital in Durham, North Carolina, which is consistently ranked among the best in the United States. The largest of the four Duke Healthhospitals with 1062 patient beds, it features comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic facilities, including a regional emergency/trauma center, an endo-surgery center, and more.

Work arrangement: Onsite at Duke University Hospital - Part-time, 20 hours a week, various dates

General Description of the Job Class

Plan, coordinate, and help manage oncology volunteer & pet therapy service programs and projects. Support volunteer activities to help meet the social and emotional needs of oncology patients and their families during their visits. Work closely with the Oncology Volunteer Coordinator and other key members of the Cancer Patient Support Team, including Recreation Therapists, Child and Adolescent Life Specialists, Therapists, and others. Fully onsite role based at Duke Cancer Center and Duke University Hospital in Durham, NC.

Duties and Responsibilities of this Level:

Coordinate a variety of volunteer activities within the assigned clinic or program and provide support to oncology patients and families when a volunteer is unavailable, including but not limited to hospitality services, educational and resource information, and referrals to other programs and supportive services.
Schedule oncology & pet therapy volunteers and help manage assignments, coverage, and program needs.
Help recruit, interview, screen, evaluate, and place oncology and pet therapy volunteers in appropriate roles, and coordinate volunteer onboarding, training, shadowing, and ongoing education.
Create and update volunteer policies, procedures, and training materials to support program goals.
Maintain records, reports, and program data to track volunteer activity and program effectiveness.
Organize, plan, and coordinate all logistics for volunteer recognition and one-time special events in partnership with the Oncology Volunteer Coordinator and the Duke Cancer Support Team.
Serve as a liaison between the volunteer program, Duke departments, and outside partners.
Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Minimum Qualifications

Education

Work requires analytical, communications and organizational skills generally acquired through completion of a bachelor's degree program with one year of experience in program administration or event production. -OR- Two years of postsecondary education with three years of experience in program administration or event production. OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
