Title: Controller (CPA Required)

J19 Investment Company is a diversified investment platform spanning aviation assets, commercial, and multifamily real estate. We are seeking a hands-on, detail-driven accounting leader to build and run the financial infrastructure supporting our growing portfolio of aviation and real estate holdings.

Position Summary

J19 Investment Company is seeking a Controller to lead accounting operations across our platform. This is a senior, hands-on leadership role reporting directly to ownership, with responsibility for building and overseeing the accounting function across multiple entities, coordinating closely with deal teams, external auditors, and tax advisors. The ideal candidate is a licensed CPA with proven experience managing complex, multi-entity financial operations, ideally within investment management, private equity, real estate, or aviation.

Key Responsibilities

Leading all accounting operations across the Company's aviation and real estate entities, including month-end and year-end close, general ledger management, and consolidated financial reporting.
Owning the financial statement preparation process, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance across all portfolio entities.
Designing, implementing, and maintaining internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures appropriate for a multi-entity investment platform.
Managing cash flow monitoring, treasury functions, and banking relationships across entities.
Partnering with deal teams on the accounting and financial due diligence for new acquisitions, including aviation asset purchases and real estate transactions.
Overseeing coordination with external auditors, tax preparers, and legal counsel, including managing annual audits and tax filings for all affiliated entities.
Preparing investor and lender reporting packages, including financial statements, budget-to-actual analyses, and portfolio performance summaries.
Managing and mentoring accounting staff and/or outsourced bookkeeping resources as the team scales.
Evaluating and improving accounting systems, chart of accounts structure, and reporting tools to support platform growth.
Ensuring compliance with debt covenants, lease accounting requirements, and other regulatory or contractual financial obligations.

Qualifications

Active CPA license required.
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required; Master's degree a plus.
[5–10]+ years of progressive accounting experience, including prior experience in a Controller, Assistant Controller, or senior accounting leadership role.
Experience with multi-entity accounting structures required; background in real estate, aviation, private equity, or investment management strongly preferred.
Strong working knowledge of GAAP, financial statement preparation, and consolidated reporting.
Prior experience managing external audit and tax engagements.
Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, NetSuite, or similar) and advanced Excel skills.
Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple entities and competing deadlines.
Strong communication skills and comfort working directly with ownership, investors, and outside advisors.
High level of integrity, discretion, and attention to detail given the confidential nature of investment and financial data.
