## About Zafrens

At Zafrens, we believe in creative solutions for addressing one of drug discovery's most pressing requirements: scale. Bringing together an innovative team of chemists, biologists, engineers, and informaticians, we seek to challenge the standard discovery pipeline and accelerate the development of novel therapeutics.

That mission only works if the disciplines actually talk to each other, so we've built a lean, cross-functional team where the biology informs the chemistry, the data informs the biology, and no one works in a silo. It's a collaborative environment where good ideas matter most, and everyone stays close to the bench.

We're now growing the team to support an exciting new avenue of investigation — and that's where this role comes in.

## About the role

We're looking for a motivated, hands-on Research Associate to support our newest discovery program. The role's primary purpose will be to support assay development; you will run assays, optimize conditions, and ensure consistency to build our program on solid foundations. You will communicate closely with downstream analytics to ensure a tight iterative loop between experiments and data, and keep detailed records of how this process evolves.

You'll be joining a small, tight-knit team that works together closely to get jobs done quickly. This means that every voice and every pair of hands matters, and we're looking for someone who is energized by this challenge. But no one here takes on challenges alone: you will be supported by direct mentorship and guidance to ensure personal and career growth along the way.

## What you'll do

- Maintain healthy mammalian cell cultures using rigorous sterile technique

- Support cell-based assays and experiments — setup, execution, and careful data recording

- Keep the lab organized and reagents, samples, and records in good order

- Contribute to experimental planning and troubleshooting as you grow into the role

- Pitch in wherever the team needs it — in a small lab, every hand matters

- Report to the head of screening and ensure that experimental timelines are communicated regularly

## What we're looking for

**Required**

- Hands-on experience with mammalian cell culture and aseptic/sterile technique

- Experience with FLOW cytometry and/or plate-based assays

- Working knowledge of cell biology fundamentals

- Strong organizational skills and reliable, detailed record-keeping

- Clear communicator and a genuine team player — you help build the environment, not just work in it

- Bachelor's degree in biology, biochemistry, immunology, or a related field (or equivalent hands-on experience)

**Preferred / a plus**

- Background or coursework in immunology

- Some microscopy experience
