Job Description and Duties

Under general supervision of the Information Technology Supervisor l, the Information Technology Associate performs a variety of recurring, well-defined tasks requiring occasional innovative problem solving with guidelines for the Department of State Hospitals (DSH).

The primary duties of the IT Associate lie within the Client Services domain of the IT Associate classification. This includes elements such as the full lifecycle of end-user device solutions including evaluation, configuration, provisioning, training, security, tracking, and support for an end-user computing environment.

Working Conditions

This position reports to Coalinga State Hospital in Fresno County. A hybrid Telework schedule, consistent with the State of California's in-office requirement, may be considered with prior approval from management. The incumbent may also be required to travel throughout California as needed, with prior notice.
The State’s Commute Programs provide bicycle, mass transit and vanpool incentives to eligible state employees. The State’s mass transit incentive pays 100% of the transit pass up to the IRS maximum of $325 per month in 2025.

The mission of the Department of State Hospitals is to provide evaluation and treatment in a safe and responsible manner, seeking innovation and excellence in hospital operations, across a continuum of care and settings.

DSH-Coalinga opened in 2005 and began treating forensically committed patients, mostly of which are sexually violent predators. It is a self-contained psychiatric hospital constructed with a security perimeter. California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) provides perimeter security as well as transportation of patients to outside medical services and court proceedings.

Desirable Qualifications

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:

Experience supporting medical devices and associated computers.
Experience providing desktop troubleshooting support, hardware/software installations.
Experience providing printer troubleshooting support, installation, and configuration
Experience analyzing issues and situations, identifying and solving technical problems, drawing conclusions to the root cause analysis, and documenting as appropriate.
Experience with IOS, Android OS, Microsoft Windows OS, and Office products.
Experience supporting mobile equipment such as smart phones, laptops, and tablets.
Demonstrated ability to exercise good judgement, act independently, solve critical and complex problems, and manage multiple competing priorities in a team environment.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
