Full Job Description

Human Resources Generalist (HRG)

Reports to: President/CEO
FLSA Status: Non Exempt
Department: Administration
Position Type: Full‑Time

Position Summary

The Human Resources Generalist (HRG) serves as the organization’s sole human resources professional, managing all aspects of HR operations as a department of one. This position reports directly to the President/CEO and collaborates with the Board of Directors’ designated HR liaison on matters involving governance, compliance, and executive‑level HR oversight. The HRG is responsible for creating, updating, applying, and enforcing HR policies and guidelines, ensuring full compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws, and providing high‑quality HR services to leadership and staff.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Develop, implement, and maintain HR policies, procedures, and employee handbook updates.
Ensure organizational compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
Manage full‑cycle recruitment, onboarding, and offboarding processes.
Oversee employee relations, conflict resolution, and performance management support.
Maintain accurate and confidential personnel files and HR records.
Administer employee benefits, leave programs, and workers’ compensation claims.
Conduct job analyses, maintain job descriptions, and support compensation reviews.
Coordinate and track mandatory trainings, certifications, and compliance requirements.
Advise leadership on HR best practices, risk mitigation, and workforce planning.
Support the President/CEO and Board liaison with HR reporting, compliance updates, and sensitive personnel matters.
Manage HRIS data entry, reporting, and system accuracy.
Lead or support investigations related to employee complaints, grievances, or policy violations.
Promote a positive organizational culture through communication, recognition, and employee engagement initiatives.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
Minimum 3–5 years of progressive HR experience, preferably in a nonprofit or small‑to‑mid‑size organization.
Strong knowledge of federal and California employment laws (or Nevada, if applicable).
Demonstrated ability to manage HR functions independently.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem‑solving skills.
High level of discretion, confidentiality, and professionalism.
Proficiency with HRIS systems, Microsoft Office, and digital recordkeeping.

Preferred Qualifications

HR certification (PHR, SPHR, SHRM‑CP, or SHRM‑SCP).
Experience supporting executive leadership or working with a Board of Directors.
Background in workforce development, nonprofit operations, or grant‑funded programs.

Working Conditions

Standard office environment with occasional travel for trainings, meetings, or compliance requirements.
Must be able to maintain confidentiality and manage sensitive information with integrity.
