Chief Executive Officer (CEO)

Georgia Pharmacy Association

Atlanta, GA

As pharmacy continues to evolve, GPhA seeks an innovative and collaborative Chief Executive Officer to lead the Association into its next chapter of growth while preserving its longstanding commitment to serving the profession and improving patient care.

About the Georgia Pharmacy Association

Founded in 1876, the Georgia Pharmacy Association (GPhA) is the statewide professional trade association organized as a non-profit under 501(c)(6) representing member pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, student pharmacists, and pharmacy owners across all practice settings. GPhA serves as the unified voice of pharmacy in Georgia through advocacy, professional development, continuing education, networking, leadership development, and practice advancement. GPhA has two affiliated entities, the Georgia Pharmacy Foundation (non-profit under 501(c)(3)) and a political action committee, PharmPAC of Georgia (section 527 organization).

Position Summary

The Chief Executive Officer serves as the chief staff executive of the Georgia Pharmacy Association and is responsible for the overall leadership, strategic direction, financial stewardship, and operational management of the Association. Reporting directly to the Board of Directors, the CEO works closely with elected volunteer leaders to implement the Association’s strategic plan, advocate for the profession, implement and expand member value and value to members, cultivate partnerships, and ensure organizational sustainability.

The CEO is expected to be a visible leader throughout Georgia and nationally, building strong relationships with members, policymakers, health systems, colleges of pharmacy, industry partners, and other healthcare organizations.

Primary Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

Implement and advance the Association’s strategic plan.
Identify emerging trends affecting pharmacy practice and position GPhA to proactively respond.
Advise the Board of Directors on strategic opportunities and organizational priorities.
Foster a culture of innovation, accountability, collaboration, and service.

Advocacy & Government Affairs

Foster and continue GPHA’s reputation as a trusted resource for legislators, regulators, and state agencies.
Support legislative and regulatory advocacy efforts in partnership with GPhA leadership, contract lobbyists, and counsel.
Build relationships with state and national pharmacy organizations.
Monitor healthcare policy and recommend advocacy priorities.

Membership Growth & Engagement

Develop and execute strategies to recruit, engage, support, and retain members.
Expand value for the profession, including for pharmacists, technicians, student pharmacists, residents, and pharmacy owners.
Support regional, academy, and special interest group engagement.
Strengthen volunteer leadership development.

Financial Stewardship

Prepare and administer the Association’s annual operating budget.
Ensure sound financial management and fiscal accountability.
Identify and develop diversified revenue streams.
Pursue sponsorships, grants, educational partnerships, and strategic business opportunities.

Organizational Management

Provide day to day and goal oriented leadership and supervision of Association staff.
Foster a positive, collaborative workplace culture.
Ensure effective management of contracts, technology, facilities, and vendor relationships.
Oversee risk management, compliance, and organizational policies.

Education & Meetings

Oversee development of high-quality educational programming.
Support planning and execution of the Annual Convention, leadership programs, webinars, and other educational events.
Ensure continuing education offerings remain relevant and financially sustainable.

External Relations

Represent GPhA before:

Georgia General Assembly
Georgia State Board of Pharmacy
Georgia Department of Public Health
Department of Community Health
Colleges and Schools of Pharmacy
National pharmacy organizations
Healthcare associations
Corporate partners
Media and public stakeholders

Desired Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess many of the following qualifications:

Executive leadership experience within a professional association, healthcare organization, nonprofit, or related organization.
Demonstrated success leading strategic initiatives and organizational growth.
Strong financial management and budgeting experience.
Experience working effectively with volunteer boards and committees.
Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
Proven ability to build partnerships and collaborative relationships.
Experience with advocacy, public policy, or governmental affairs is highly desirable.
Strong organizational leadership and personnel management skills.
Experience with fundraising, sponsorship development, grants, or business development.
Ability to lead organizational change while respecting organizational culture and history.

A PharmD or pharmacy background is welcomed but not required. Candidates with demonstrated success leading healthcare associations or comparable nonprofit organizations are strongly encouraged to apply.

Compensation

GPhA offers a competitive executive compensation package commensurate with experience, including salary, retirement benefits, health benefits, paid time off, professional development support, and travel reimbursement.
