Director of Accounting

Location: Phoenix, AZ - Hybrid - 4 days remote + 1 in-office

Compensation: $64-110/HR

Schedule: Monday-Friday 8-5 Flex

Duration: 6 month contract to hire opportunity - Reliable employees will be converted at the end of the contract period

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Director of Accounting will support a hospital by overseeing the accounting function and driving operational excellence across financial processes. This role is responsible for managing the monthly close process, ensuring journal entries are completed accurately and on time, and presenting financial results to senior leadership. This individual will lead a team of supervisors and their respective teams, providing mentorship, guidance, and ongoing development to build a strong, high-performing organization. Success in this role requires a solution-oriented mindset and the ability to continuously evaluate and improve existing processes to create efficiencies and scalability. The Director of Accounting will play a key role in identifying gaps, streamlining workflows, and enhancing the overall close process while maintaining accuracy and compliance. This position offers strong visibility, autonomy, and the opportunity to make a meaningful impact within a growing healthcare environment.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Strong accounting fundamentals with deep understanding of month-end close processes
Prior leadership experience managing and developing teams
Experience overseeing multiple direct reports (manager/supervisor level)
Strong communication skills with the ability to present financial results to leadership
Proven ability to identify inefficiencies and drive process improvements
Operational mindset with focus on continuous improvement and scalability
High level of accountability with strong attention to detail
Self-starter who takes ownership and can operate with autonomy
Adaptable and coachable in a fast-paced, evolving environment Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (with accounting coursework) -hospital or public accounting experience

NICE TO HAVE SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Experience with Workday
Healthcare or hospital system experience a plus
Experience improving or transforming close processes
Background supporting growing or changing organizations
Public accounting background preferred
Experience with a Big 4 accounting firm highly valued

Pay: $64.00 - $110.00 per hour
