Full Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated CNC Laser Operator to join our manufacturing team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the setup, operation, and maintenance of CNC laser cutting machines, with a strong preference for experience on Trumpf TRUMATIC L3030 equipment. This role requires precision, technical expertise, and a commitment to producing high-quality parts while adhering to safety standards and production schedules.

Key Responsibilities

General Operational Responsibilities

•Perform daily machine startup and shutdown procedures on CNC cutting equipment.

•Stage raw materials at each work-center for the day’s production.

•Load and unload machines efficiently and safely.

•Ensure production schedule adherence as allocated by the fabrication supervisor.

•Assist in loading and unloading team members’ machines when production demands require additional manpower to maintain throughput.

•Perform minor maintenance and cleaning of cutting equipment and work area in accordance with company standards and manufacturer's machine recommendations.

•Perform machine alignment procedures and optic cleaning to maintain equipment at peak operating performance.

•Facilitate work-order paper flow, ensuring accurate documentation.

•Check parts on other cutting centers if required to support overall production quality.

•Monitor assist and resonator gas levels, and recommend supply requirements for daily production.

•Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and work orders to determine specifications and production requirements.

•Perform quality inspections of finished parts using precision measuring tools (e.g., calipers, micrometers).

•Document production activities and quality control checks.

•Collaborate with other production staff to ensure efficient workflow.

Specific Responsibilities and Skills

•Machine Setup and Calibration:

•Proficiency in setting up the TRUMATIC L3030, including lens adjustment, nozzle changes, and gas pressure settings specific to CO2 lasers.

•Ability to calibrate the laser beam and ensure optimal cutting parameters for different material types and thicknesses.

•Program Management:

•Experience with TRUMPF's proprietary control systems and software for loading, modifying, and optimizing cutting programs

•Understanding of G-code and M-code as applied to TRUMPF machines for fine-tuning cutting paths and machine movements.

•Material Handling:

•Familiarity with various metal types (e.g., mild steel, stainless steel, aluminum) and their specific handling and cutting characteristics on a CO2 laser.

•Maintenance and Troubleshooting:

•Ability to perform routine preventative maintenance tasks on the TRUMATIC L3030, such as cleaning optics, checking laser resonator components, and maintaining the cooling system.

•Skilled in diagnosing and resolving common operational issues and error codes specific to TRUMPF laser systems.

•Quality Control:

•Expertise in assessing cut quality, identifying imperfections (e.g., dross, burrs, taper), and adjusting machine parameters to achieve desired tolerances.

•Proficiency in using precision measuring tools to verify part dimensions against specifications

Required Skills and Qualifications

•High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training or certification in CNC machining is a plus.

•Previous experience as a CNC Laser Operator or similar role is required.

•Technical Proficiency: Proficient in operating CNC laser cutting machines, with a strong understanding of G-code and M-code programming (or ability to learn).

•Blueprint Reading: Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.

•Measuring Tools: Knowledge of precision measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, tape measures).

•Problem-Solving: Ability to troubleshoot machine issues and make necessary adjustments; strong analytical skills.

•Attention to Detail: Meticulous in ensuring parts meet exact specifications and commitment to quality control.

•Physical Stamina: Ability to lift and move materials; comfortable standing for extended periods.

•Communication: Good oral and written communication skills for reporting and collaboration.

•Basic Math Skills: Essential for measurements and calculations.

Preferred Experience

•Direct hands-on experience operating and maintaining a Trumpf TRUMATIC L3030 or similar TRUMPF CO2 laser cutting machine.

•Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

•Commitment to safety protocols and best practices in laser operation.
