Job Title: Martha’s Vineyard Assistant Culinary Chef for Martha's Deli

Location: In Person, Martha’s Catering (1122 Michigan St NE, Grand Rapids)

Job Type: Full-Time, Hourly

Shift: Monday – Thursday (Occasional Weekends)

Pay: Starting at $19 per hour (based on experience)

Job Preferences:

· Two years of kitchen prep experience preferred.

· Strong written and verbal communication and costing skills.

· Good organization, prioritization, decision-making, problem solving, and conflict management skills.

· Able to work in a team setting and follow direction from established deli chef.

· Must be available to work day shifts, night shifts, weekdays, weekends, and holidays. Our businesses are open on all holidays except for Thanksgiving and Christmas Day.

About Martha’s Deli:

Our Deli at Martha’s Vineyard strives to be your second kitchen. Where homecooked and delicious prepared foods are ready at your arrival. We keep our displays fully stocked like a cornucopia of quality food and flavor. The food produced in this position is made to be displayed in our deli case. Understanding food presentation and look is important. Having the skill-set to follow a recipe while not taking creative liberties unless otherwise specified, is important. Food must taste great, look appetizing, and be duplicated from week to week. Consistency is key.

What You’ll Do:

As the Assistant Martha’s Vineyard Culinary Chef, you will work to produce deli food out of our commissary located at Martha’s Catering. We are looking for a team member that values treating those around us with absolute respect, from those that we work with, to our customers. We are searching for kitchen chef that can work well in a team setting and communicates kindly and clearly. We maintain a focused environment within our kitchen setting. A successful Deli Culinary Chef able to support the food production team in any position, most specifically, with abundant food prep and assembly. New idea collaboration with the Deli Chef and Deli Manager is encouraged.

Deli Chef Responsibilities:

This position follows the lead of our head deli chef.

· Preparing deli offerings while maintaining food safety and quality standards.

· Keeping prep areas clean and organized throughout your shift.

· Collaborating with your manager to ensure smooth and efficient deli operations.

· Be responsible to order and maintain inventory within the deli department, while ensuring product freshness, quality, and proper rotation.

· Maintain familiarity with all products carried in the department as well as throughout the deli.

· Maintain a clean, attractive, and well stocked department

· Assure that food safety guidelines and requirements are always followed and maintained

· Take immediate corrective action if not followed

· Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed

· Exposure to varied temperatures, stocking and organizing in a cooler, and exposure to outside weather conditions.

Physical Requirements:

May be required to lift and/or move up to 30 pounds frequently, and up to 50 pounds. The associate is required to stand and walk for extended periods of time and may bend, stoop, twist and turn frequently. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is subject to a typical kitchen environment (varied temperatures) and is exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually medium/loud. This job requires consistent interaction with team members in a busy kitchen setting.

· Requires the use of hands for reaching, touching, or handling and fine finger movements.

· Frequently exposed to cold and hot conditions (non-weather).

· Frequently exposed to wet, slippery, or damp conditions.

· Frequently exposed to and requires the use of equipment with sharp blades or edges.
