Job Description

We are looking for technically skilled candidates with strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities for our Service Technician position.

This is a technology-heavy, hands-on technical role and is not a traditional help-desk position. The ideal candidate should be comfortable diagnosing and resolving complex technical issues, working with computer networks and systems, configuring equipment, and performing programming and system setup.

Technicians will serve as a technical resource for clients and internal users, responding to technical issues in a timely manner and ensuring the optimal operation of systems. Candidates should be able to independently troubleshoot problems, identify the root cause of an issue, and implement an appropriate solution, rather than simply escalate issues they cannot resolve.

The role also involves working directly with clients and traveling to project sites throughout NYC and The Hamptons. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential, as technicians will interact with colleagues across departments, executive-level personnel, and clientele.

Location Requirement

Given the amount of daily travel this role involves, we're only able to consider candidates who currently live on Long Island, between Mineola and Riverhead. This is a firm requirement for the role.

Service Technician Responsibilities

Configure and set up routers, switches, and access points for installation
Troubleshoot and resolve network and connectivity issues
Diagnose and resolve complex technical problems, including issues that cannot be addressed through basic troubleshooting
Repair or replace damaged hardware and equipment
Upgrade and update systems to the latest firmware
Provide remote technical assistance to clients and resolve issues remotely when possible
Review tickets through the email-based system and provide end users with timely status updates
Serve as the first point of contact for technical error reporting
Establish and maintain strong relationships with the client base
Conduct backup operations
Manage technical documentation and ensure all pertinent information is properly documented
Build virtual racks for the on-site installation team
Perform physical rack building and equipment preparation
Perform shell programming for upcoming automation projects
Assist with pre-installation setup and programming of alarm panels
Participate in technical system configuration and programming prior to installation
Identify the root cause of technical issues and determine the appropriate solution rather than relying solely on escalation
Work independently in diagnosing and resolving technical issues while knowing when additional support is required
Travel to client locations and project sites as needed to resolve issues that cannot be addressed remotely or over the phone
Support projects ranging from NYC through The Hamptons

Service Technician Requirements

Must currently reside on Long Island, between Mineola and Riverhead
1+ years of experience in computer networks and systems maintenance
At least 1 year of router/switch configuration experience
Strong understanding of networking, systems, and technical troubleshooting
Ability to diagnose and resolve technical problems independently
Ability to troubleshoot beyond basic help-desk-level issues
Comfortable working with technical systems, hardware, networking equipment, and programming/configuration tasks
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Good interpersonal skills
Strong attention to detail
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Ability to work independently and take ownership of technical issues
M-F, 9:00am-5:30pm
Willingness to travel approximately 75%

Helpful, But Not Required

Alarm programming experience
Knowledge of automation systems such as Control4 or Savant
Shell programming experience
Experience with system programming or pre-installation configuration
Clean NYS Driver's License

What We're Looking For

This position is best suited for someone who enjoys figuring out complicated technical problems and getting systems working again.

Candidates should have hands-on technical experience and be comfortable going beyond basic troubleshooting. This is not simply a role where you will reset passwords, answer basic user questions, or escalate every technical issue to someone else. You will be expected to understand the technology, troubleshoot the problem, identify what is causing it, and work toward a solution.
