FIELD ESTIMATOR – ASPHALT PAVING
Paid Training Available

Luke’s Asphalt Paving is looking for a sharp, dependable person to train as a field estimator. This position will work directly with the company owner and gradually take responsibility for residential and commercial estimates.

We are not necessarily looking for someone who already knows asphalt. We are looking for a problem solver who understands construction, communicates well, is comfortable with technology, and can learn our estimating system.

ABOUT THE POSITION

Our office provides qualified leads and schedules the appointments. This is not a cold-calling position.

The estimator travels to customer properties, discusses the project, evaluates the site, takes measurements and photographs, and recommends the appropriate work. After each visit, the estimator prepares a clear and accurate estimate using our pricing system and JobNimbus software.

Most appointments involve driveways, private roads, asphalt repairs, parking areas, and smaller commercial properties. Our services include asphalt paving, overlays, pavement repairs, chip seal, sealcoating, crack sealing, limestone base installation, grading, drainage improvements, and driveway culverts.

This is primarily a field position and involves considerable driving, outdoor work, customer interaction, and computer or tablet work. A typical day may include four to six scheduled appointments throughout the Texas Hill Country and San Antonio area.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Meet with homeowners, property managers, and commercial customers.
Inspect, measure, and photograph potential projects.
Recognize drainage, access, base, layout, and pavement-condition concerns.
Develop practical recommendations based on the customer’s needs and jobsite conditions.
Prepare accurate scopes of work and pricing using Luke’s established estimating system.
Enter complete notes, photographs, and customer information into JobNimbus.
Explain estimates and answer customer questions professionally.
Follow up on outstanding estimates.
Provide our operations team with accurate information when a project is approved.
Manage appointments and assigned tasks without needing constant reminders.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

The right person will:

Be a strong problem solver who can evaluate situations and think independently.
Be technologically capable and able to learn new software quickly.
Be organized, dependable, and attentive to details.
Communicate confidently without using high-pressure sales tactics.
Be comfortable measuring projects and performing basic calculations.
Follow company processes while knowing when to ask for assistance.
Take ownership of their work and follow through on commitments.
Be willing to learn the technical side of asphalt paving, drainage, grading, and pavement repair.
Want to grow into a long-term position with greater responsibility.

Construction, estimating, project management, field supervision, or construction sales experience is preferred. Experience involving asphalt, concrete, excavation, grading, roofing, landscaping, or other field construction would be helpful.

Prior asphalt-estimating experience is not required for an exceptional candidate who has good judgment and can learn quickly.

REQUIREMENTS

Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
Comfortable driving to several appointments each day.
Able to walk uneven jobsites and work outside in Texas weather.
Comfortable using a smartphone, tablet, email, maps, photographs, and customer-management software.
Professional appearance and communication.
Reliable attendance and follow-through.

PAY AND ADVANCEMENT

Starting pay is generally $22–$26 per hour, depending on relevant experience and demonstrated ability.
Candidates requiring complete estimator training will generally start at $22–$23 per hour.
Formal performance and compensation review after approximately 90 days.
A fully trained estimator who can independently produce accurate and profitable estimates can advance to approximately $28 per hour.
Further advancement is available as the employee becomes capable of handling more difficult projects and greater responsibility.
Company vehicle and fuel are provided for business appointments.
Company phone or tablet is provided as needed.

SCHEDULE

Full-time, primarily Monday through Friday. Occasional longer days may be necessary during the busy season. Approved overtime will be paid according to applicable requirements.
