<Job Overview>
We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our finance team. This pivotal role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the accurate and timely preparation of financial statements, ensure compliance with regulatory standards, and support various accounting functions across diverse sectors including non-profit, governmental, and corporate environments. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong technical accounting skills, a proactive mindset, and a passion for financial excellence. <Duties>

Prepare and analyze financial statements in accordance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and other regulatory standards.
Conduct account reconciliations including general ledger reconciliation, bank reconciliation, and account analysis to ensure accuracy and completeness.
Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable processes efficiently using accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage, Xero, or PeopleSoft.
Perform journal entries and double entry bookkeeping to record financial transactions accurately.
Support month-end and year-end closing activities, including balance sheet reconciliation and financial report writing.
Assist with audit preparations by providing documentation for internal and external auditors, ensuring compliance with SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley Act) controls.
Contribute to budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis efforts to support strategic decision-making.
Maintain compliance with regulatory reporting requirements related to securities law, LIHTC (Low-Income Housing Tax Credit), or other applicable regulations.
Provide mentorship and training to junior team members on accounting procedures, software tools like Microsoft Excel, Quicken, or Xero, and best practices in financial management.
Support special projects involving technical accounting issues such as accrual accounting, revenue recognition under GAAP or IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards), or legal considerations like wills, trusts & estate law.

<Skills>

Strong knowledge of GAAP, SOX compliance standards, and regulatory reporting requirements.
Proficiency in accounting software including QuickBooks, Sage, Xero, PeopleSoft or similar platforms.
Expertise in financial concepts such as debits & credits, journal entries, accruals, and double entry bookkeeping.
Experience with financial statement preparation and interpretation for diverse sectors including non-profit or governmental accounting.
Ability to perform detailed account reconciliation tasks like bank reconciliation and general ledger reconciliation accurately.
Skilled in financial analysis, cash flow analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and financial report writing.
Familiarity with tax experience related to corporate finance or non-profit sectors is a plus.
Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities efficiently.
Strong communication skills for mentoring team members and collaborating across departments.
Technical acumen in using Microsoft Excel for data analysis and reporting purposes; experience with other financial software such as Quicken or Xero is advantageous.
