Child: 1 toddler boy, 16 months old
Compensation: 43-48/hour DOE
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM
Guaranteed Hours: 20 hours/week
Employment Type: W-2 household employee
Position Type: Part-Time Toddler Nanny
About the Position
We’re looking for a nanny who absolutely loves spending time with toddlers and is highly attuned to the small things that make each child unique. Someone who notices what the child gravitates toward, what they avoid, what helps them feel comfortable, and how small changes to the environment can better support their development, independence, and sense of security.
A wonderful family in downtown Mountain View is looking for an experienced afternoon nanny for their 16-month-old son.
Their toddler is curious, expressive, and especially loves books, music, exploring objects and containers, walks around downtown, and time outside. He is entering a fun and active stage of toddlerhood where independence, communication, movement, and big emotions are all developing quickly.
The family is looking for someone warm, patient, emotionally attuned, observant, and genuinely interested in understanding the child in front of them rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all approach.
This is a true childcare-focused nanny position. There is no family assistant work, regular household cleaning, child laundry, or regular driving expected. The toddler is awake throughout the nanny's shift, so the family's priority is for the nanny to spend that time actively engaged with him.
The parents are thoughtful and involved while also genuinely valuing an experienced nanny's observations and ideas. They are looking for a collaborative partnership and want their nanny to feel trusted and respected in the role.
For someone who enjoys working afternoons or already has a morning commitment, this offers a consistent 20-hour schedule with guaranteed hours and a strong hourly rate.

What the Afternoon Might Look Like
A typical afternoon may include:
- Helping the toddler transition from his nap into the afternoon.
- Supporting his potty/elimination communication routine.
- Preparing and offering a snack.
- Reading books, singing songs, talking, and playing together.
- Walking to a nearby park, bookstore, downtown area, or other child-friendly space.
- Supporting movement and developmental play.
- Including the child in simple age-appropriate food preparation when he is interested.
- Helping him work through frustration, transitions, and big feelings with calm reassurance.
- Cleaning up the meals, toys, books, and activities used together before the end of the shift.
Development & Engagement
The family values a nanny who enjoys thinking about what a toddler is learning and how everyday experiences can support development.
The nanny will:
- Support the child's language through conversation, narration, books, songs, and responsive interaction.
- Follow his interests while also creating opportunities to explore new skills.
- Encourage age-appropriate independence rather than immediately stepping in to do things for him.
- Support gross motor, fine motor, cognitive, communication, and social-emotional development through everyday play.
- Notice emerging skills, interests, and developmental changes and share observations with the parents.
- Stay patient when the toddler needs repetition or is not immediately interested in an activity.
- Bring thoughtful ideas and observations while remaining collaborative with the parents.
The family's approach is Montessori-inspired and attachment-informed, but formal Montessori training is not required. What matters most is a nanny who understands respectful toddler care, independence, observation, and giving children opportunities to try things themselves.
Meals & Feeding
The nanny will prepare simple toddler meals and snacks during the shift.
The toddler is currently developing his eating and chewing skills, so patience and a low-pressure approach to food are important.
Responsibilities include:
- Preparing simple, nutritious toddler food.
- Offering a variety of foods without pressure.
- Following the family's current feeding approach and therapist guidance.
- Encouraging age-appropriate feeding independence.
- Allowing the child to participate in simple food preparation when appropriate.
- Staying calm when food is rejected, dropped, or thrown.
- Communicating what was offered, what the child ate, and any patterns noticed.
- Cleaning the child's dishes, high chair, and eating area afterward.
Experience with picky eating or feeding challenges is a plus.
Potty / Elimination Communication
The family has been practicing elimination communication with their toddler and would like the nanny to continue their existing routine.
Prior EC experience is not required.
The family is happy to teach their approach. They are looking for someone open-minded, patient, and consistent who is comfortable continuing the routine they have established.
Outdoor Time
The family lives in highly walkable downtown Mountain View with several parks and child-friendly activities nearby.
Regular driving is not expected.
Afternoons may include:
- Walks around downtown Mountain View.
- Nearby parks and playgrounds.
- Trips to the bookstore.
- Swinging and grass play.
- Outdoor exploration.
- Supported walking and gross-motor play.
The nanny should enjoy getting outside regularly.
Child-Related Responsibilities
The toddler will be awake throughout the four-hour shift so the nanny’s priority will be active with the baby rather than household work.
The nanny is responsible for:
- Preparing the child's snacks and simple meals during the shift. It will be great to integrate the baby with you.
- Cleaning the high chair and eating area.
- Tidying toys, books, and activity spaces used together.
- Cleaning up after activities.
Regular child laundry is not part of this position.
Who Will Thrive in This Role
The strongest candidate will be someone who genuinely enjoys toddlers and wants to actively engage with them rather than simply supervise.
The family is especially looking for someone who is:
- Warm and highly attuned: Notices what the child is preferring and not liking and responds thoughtfully.
- Patient and emotionally steady: Can remain calm through crying, resistance, transitions, and toddler frustration.
- Genuinely enthusiastic about children: Enjoys playing, reading, talking, exploring, and spending time with a toddler.
- Developmentally knowledgeable: Understands toddler milestones and how everyday play can support development.
- Collaborative: Comfortable sharing observations and ideas while working closely with involved parents.
- Growth-oriented: Willing to learn the family's approach and adapt as the child grows.
- Calm in presence: Brings steadiness rather than overwhelming energy into the home.
- Gentle but consistent with boundaries: Can remain empathetic and reassuring while still holding an appropriate limit.
- Observant and curious: Interested in understanding what motivates the child and finding ways to meet him where he is.
Experience & Requirements
- Strong professional toddler-care experience.
- Good understanding of toddler development and milestones.
- Experience supporting toddlers through emotions and transitions.
- Experience with picky eating or feeding challenges preferred.
- Comfortable reinforcing simple therapist-recommended developmental activities.

- Up-to-date vaccinations preferred.
- Authorized to work in the U.S.
- Able to pass a background check.
- W-2 employment.
- Live-out position.
- Non-smoker and no vaping or drug use.
- Comfortable maintaining a no-screen environment while caring for the child.
- Comfortable working in a parent-at-home household.

- Elimination communication experience.
- Experience caring for children from toddlerhood into the preschool years.
- Mandarin fluency or conversational Mandarin.
Home Environment
The family lives in downtown Mountain View in a highly walkable neighborhood with parks, bookstores, and other child-friendly activities nearby.
This is a parent-at-home household. During the nanny's working hours, the parents want to be able to step back and trust that their child is happily engaged and well cared for while maintaining an open and collaborative relationship with their nanny.
The household is sensitive to pet dander, so candidates should be mindful of significant pet hair or dander on clothing and belongings.
