Assistant Project Manager – Mechanical Construction

Location: Springfield, MA
Job Type: Full-Time | Direct Hire
Salary: $55,000 – $65,000 (Based on Experience)

Partnering with an Established Mechanical Construction Contractor

Merge Associates is partnering with a well-established and highly respected mechanical construction contractor seeking an Assistant Project Manager to join its growing team in Springfield, Massachusetts.

This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated and detail-oriented professional looking to build a long-term career in commercial mechanical construction. The Assistant Project Manager will support the successful planning, coordination, and execution of HVAC, plumbing, piping, and mechanical construction projects while working closely with experienced Project Managers, Superintendents, subcontractors, and clients.

Whether you have one or more years of construction project management experience or recently completed a relevant internship in mechanical construction, commercial construction, or construction project management, we'd love to hear from you.

Responsibilities Pre-Construction

Assist the Project Manager with all pre-construction activities.
Review project estimates, specifications, drawings, and contract documents.
Support purchasing of materials, equipment, and subcontractor services.
Help prepare and present construction plans for assigned projects.
Organize and distribute project documents to internal teams and subcontractors.
Establish and maintain project files for submittals, RFIs, change orders, equipment deliveries, and related documentation.
Track and update manpower loading charts and labor forecasting information.
Build productive working relationships with owners, architects, engineers, vendors, subcontractors, and field personnel.
Identify potential design conflicts, missing information, or other project issues and help coordinate timely resolutions.

Construction Phase

Maintain current project drawings and specifications, including all addenda and revisions.
Monitor project budgets and assist with weekly cost and labor reviews.
Coordinate equipment delivery schedules with field teams.
Assist with preparing and maintaining project schedules.
Conduct jobsite visits and quality control inspections.
Attend subcontractor and coordination meetings.
Prepare and track change orders, including pricing, documentation, and scope revisions.
Review and prepare Requests for Information (RFIs).
Manage submittal tracking and distribution to the project team.
Support monthly project review and reporting activities.
Monitor jobsite safety compliance and coordinate safety documentation.
Assist with project billing, invoicing, and payment follow-up.
Maintain documentation related to delays, schedule impacts, and project changes.
Take a proactive approach to anticipating future project needs and resolving issues before they impact the schedule.

Project Closeout

Assist with final pay applications and lien waiver documentation.
Coordinate punch list completion with field and subcontractor teams.
Support equipment start-up, commissioning, owner training, and turnover activities.
Prepare and distribute Operation & Maintenance (O&M) manuals.
Coordinate completion of as-built documentation.
Organize warranty documentation and subcontractor contact information.
Participate in post-construction review meetings.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field preferred.
1+ years of experience in project management, project engineering, or construction coordination within mechanical contracting, commercial construction, industrial construction, or a related field preferred.
Recent graduates with internship experience in mechanical construction, commercial construction, or construction project management are encouraged to apply.
Strong organizational, communication, and time management skills.
Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office; experience with Microsoft Project, Procore, Bluebeam Revu, Autodesk Construction Cloud, or similar construction management software is a plus.
Interest or working knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, piping, and mechanical building systems.
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
