As our Major Gift Officer, you'll manage a portfolio of major donors and prospects, connecting their goals to our mission and turning genuine relationships into the philanthropy that fuels our work.

Position Summary
The Major Gift Officer plays a critical role in advancing Hawaiʻi Foodbank’s mission to nourish our ʻOhana today, while working to end hunger tomorrow. This position is responsible for identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding a portfolio of major gift donors and prospects capable of making gifts of $10,000 or more in support of Hawaiʻi Foodbank’s mission, strategic priorities, and future growth.
The ideal candidate is a results-oriented, highly professional, and relationship-driven fundraiser who thrives in a fast-paced, mission-centered environment. This role requires strong communication skills, strategic relationship management, and a proven ability to cultivate and secure major gifts. development team, donors, volunteers, board members, and community partners to strengthen donor relationships, increase philanthropic investment, and advance Hawaiʻi Foodbank’s mission throughout the state.
This position serves as a lead frontline fundraiser responsible for managing a portfolio of major gift donors and prospects, building long-term philanthropic partnerships, and developing a strong pipeline of current and future major gift support.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Major Donor Portfolio Management
- Manage a portfolio of approximately 100-115 major gift donors and prospects through all stages of the donor lifecycle, including identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
- Develop individualized donor goals and engagement strategies based on donor interests, giving history, philanthropic capacity, and organizational priorities.
- Create and execute donor-centered moves management plans designed to strengthen relationships, increase philanthropic support, and deepen engagement with Hawaiʻi Foodbank.
- Conduct donor meetings, site visits, tours, virtual meetings, phone calls, and personalized outreach activities.
- Maintain accurate donor records, engagement plans, and portfolio activity within Raiser's Edge NXT.
- Actively manage donor relationships through timely follow-up, stewardship, and ongoing communication.
Major Gift Fundraising
- Meet or exceed annual fundraising goals through the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of major gift donors and prospects.
- Solicit and secure major gifts from individuals, families, and other philanthropic partners in support of Hawaiʻi Foodbank’s mission and priorities.
- Develop and implement solicitation strategies that align donor interests with Hawaiʻi Foodbank funding opportunities and organizational priorities.
- Secure five- and six-figure gifts in support of Hawaiʻi Foodbank’s strategic initiatives, programs, operations, and campaign priorities.
- Support and collaborate with HFB Leadership and Principal Gifts Officer in occasional support of securing principal gifts / 7-figure gifts.
- Develop strategies to retain, upgrade, and deepen donor engagement and philanthropic investment.
Prospect Identification & Pipeline Development
- Identify, qualify, and cultivate new major gift prospects through donor analytics, prospect research, wealth screening resources, referrals, community engagement, and relationship networks.
- Utilize donor information, fundraising data, and engagement trends to develop and strengthen major gift pipelines.
- Partner with the Leadership Annual Giving Officer to facilitate strategic transitions of donors demonstrating major gift capacity and readiness for gifts of $10,000 or greater.
- Analyze portfolio performance and fundraising outcomes to support donor strategy development and revenue forecasting.
- Utilize Raiser's Edge NXT and prospect research tools to support portfolio management, fundraising performance, and donor strategy development.
Stewardship & Donor Engagement
- Ensure meaningful stewardship, recognition, and engagement opportunities for major donors.
- Coordinate donor visits, volunteer experiences, site tours, events, and engagement opportunities that deepen donor relationships and connect donors to Hawaiʻi Foodbank’s mission.
- Ensure major donors receive timely, personalized communication and stewardship that reflects Hawaiʻi Foodbank’s impact and funding priorities.
- Serve as an ambassador for Hawaiʻi Foodbank by effectively communicating organizational priorities, impact, and philanthropic opportunities.
- Represent Hawaiʻi Foodbank at donor events, community activities, fundraising events, and engagement opportunities.
Collaboration & Mission Support
- Work closely with the Director of Major Giving to develop and execute donor strategies, fundraising priorities, and revenue goals.
- Collaborate with the Leadership Annual Giving Officer to support donor progression across the giving continuum.
- Partner with the Director of Development Operations to ensure accurate donor records, portfolio management, reporting, fundraising analytics, and data integrity.
- Collaborate with the Director of Donor Engagement to ensure a seamless donor experience and coordinated stewardship strategy.
- Support volunteer, board, and donor engagement activities that strengthen donor relationships and fundraising outcomes.
Qualifications & Experience
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Business Administration, Nonprofit Management, Marketing, Public Relations, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum of 5–7 years of frontline fundraising, nonprofit development, sales, business development, or relationship management experience.
- Demonstrated success cultivating, soliciting, and securing major gifts of $10,000 or greater, or comparable financial commitments.
- Experience managing donor, prospect, customer, or client portfolios with measurable revenue goals and performance outcomes.
- Experience utilizing Raiser's Edge NXT or comparable CRM systems.
- Strong interpersonal, written, verbal, presentation, and relationship management skills.
- Strong organizational and analytical skills with attention to detail.
- Demonstrated commitment to professionalism, customer service, and mission-driven work.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience securing five- and six-figure gifts.
- Experience with prospect research and wealth screening tools.
- Experience working with high-net-worth individuals, family foundations, corporate donors, or community leaders.
- Experience supporting campaign fundraising initiatives.
- Passion for community impact and Hawaiʻi-based nonprofit work.

Mathematical Skills:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, percentages. Ability to apply all concepts of bookkeeping and all generally accepted accounting procedures.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Equipment, Machines, Tool, Vehicles Used:
- Ability to use a computer workstation including keyboard, mouse, printer, fax and multi-line phone systems to execute tasks.
- Computer literacy with working knowledge of Microsoft office is required with emphasis on proficiency in Word and Excel.
- Computer literacy with experience working with a database system.
- Valid driver’s license and access to insured personal vehicle.

- Hybrid, working 2-3 days in office and balance of time as remote after 90 days.
- Requires driving for off-site days, evening and weekend meetings and fundraisers and marketing events, as needed or assigned.
- Requires the use of computers, mobile, telephonic equipment, etc.
- The noise level ranges from quiet to moderate to loud at times.
