Full Job Description

RESPONSIBILITIES

To perform this role successfully, the individual must be capable of executing all essential duties to a satisfactory standard. This position requires the use of sound judgment and initiative in organizing work activities to meet established objectives. The requirements outlined below represent the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities. Conduct evaluation and assessment of polymer-based materials for use in unbonded flexible pipe applications.
Perform research and evaluation of polymer processing technologies and techniques.
Carry out painting and coating inspections for steel structures, pipelines, pressure vessels, offshore vessels, and shipbuilding and repair projects.
Monitor environmental and weather conditions to ensure suitability for surface preparation and coating application.
Prepare Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs) in accordance with project, company, and surface preparation/coating requirements.
Inspect and monitor all painting and coating activities to ensure compliance with company procedures, client specifications, and applicable international standards.
Develop and implement testing programs for nonmetallic materials within R&D initiatives.
Coordinate regularly with paint manufacturer technical representatives.
Participate in idea-generation initiatives to identify development and improvement opportunities.
Lead or contribute as a member of cross-functional teams supporting internal and external quality programs.
Develop detailed work packages, project plans, and resource schedules.
Identify and support patent evaluations and filing opportunities.
Interface directly with supplier technical representatives to support material development and application, verify material properties, and resolve material-related issues arising during supplier or in-house manufacturing processes.
Interpret and apply technical procedures, industry standards, and regulatory requirements, including ISO, API, ASME, and ASTM.
Prepare documentation demonstrating material compliance with technical procedures, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
Actively participate in industry standards committees.
Attend and support trade shows, conferences, seminars, fellowships, and exhibitions as required.
Produce clear, consistent, and accurate documentation that effectively communicates complex technical information.
Collaborate with internal stakeholders to develop technical documentation and communications.
Prepare and/or approve technical manuals, procedural guides, process specifications, and marketing or technical literature in both hard copy and electronic formats in accordance with company and industry standards.
Manage multiple projects concurrently while maintaining quality and timelines.
Demonstrate a high level of initiative and openness to continuous learning.
Exhibit strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Travel to customer and supplier locations as required.
Utilize computer systems for laboratory reporting, data analysis, and research activities.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Outdoor activities with exposure to varying weather conditions such as sun, wind, and rain.
Travel requirements may range from 50% to 75%.

QUALIFICATIONS

High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office, graphical tools, and online applications.
Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, multi-tasking, team-oriented environment.

Flexibility and adaptability to meet tight deadlines and changing priorities.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in Materials Science, Materials Engineering, or a related discipline, with 2–4 years of relevant experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
NACE Certified Inspector certification preferred.
Working knowledge of ISO, API, ASTM, and NACE standards applicable to oil and gas materials.
Experience with nonmetallic materials characterization and mechanical testing equipment is highly desirable, including DSC, TGA, SEM/EDS, and DMA.
Proficiency in word processing, database management, spreadsheet, and presentation software.
