Full Job Description

Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Veterinary Assistant to join our team at a busy veterinary clinic. The ideal candidate will have a strong passion for animal care and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment. As a Veterinary Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting veterinarians and ensuring the well-being of our animal patients.

Duties

Assist veterinarians during examinations and procedures, providing support as needed.
Prepare and maintain examination rooms, ensuring cleanliness and organization.
Handle and restrain animals safely during examinations and treatments.
Administer medications as directed by the veterinarian, including injections and oral medications.
Monitor animal patients' vital signs and report any changes to the veterinarian.
Perform basic laboratory tests, such as blood draws or urinalysis.
Maintain accurate medical records for each patient, documenting treatment plans and progress.
Educate pet owners on proper animal care, including nutrition, grooming, and medication administration.
Assist with animal husbandry tasks, including feeding, bathing, and exercising animals.
Ensure compliance with safety protocols and maintain a clean working environment.

Qualifications

Knowledge of veterinary terminology is essential for effective communication within the clinic.
Experience or training in veterinary critical care is preferred but not mandatory.
Familiarity with equine care is a plus for those interested in working with horses.
Previous experience as a Veterinary Assistant or in a veterinary clinic setting is highly desirable.
Skills in animal catheterization are advantageous for assisting with procedures.
Strong understanding of animal anatomy to assist in examinations and treatments.
Ability to administer medications accurately and follow prescribed treatment plans.
Excellent interpersonal skills to interact positively with clients and their pets.
A commitment to animal welfare and the ability to work well under pressure.
