Full Job Description

Job Overview

The Assistant Controller position ensures the consistent application of correct accounting policies, processes, and procedures. The Assistant Controller is responsible for preparing monthly financial reports and has full general ledger accountability, including responsibility for tax compliance, accounts receivable collections, and the organization and maintenance of the financial filing system.

Responsibilities

1. Preparation of Financial Reports

· Responsible for the general ledger account reconciliations.

· Month-end closing procedures and journal entries.

· Weekly cash flow reporting.

· Preparation and maintenance of accounting system documentation.

· Sales tax return preparation and handling of any sales tax audits.

· Federal and state return preparation of work papers for outside accounting firm.

· Preparation of audit schedules, audit interface, preparation of various tax analyses, and research to ensure compliance with state and federal registration and reporting requirements.

· Coordinate with materials group in inventory physical counts and reconciliation of physical counts to general ledger.

· Maintenance of property tax records and filings.

· Maintain Fixed Asset Register.

· Intercompany confirmations.

· Insurance administration (excluding credit insurance).

2. General accounting requirements

· Coordinate semiannual reviews and annual audit with independent auditors, including audit support and documentation.

· Provide personnel cost information as needed. Submit hourly and salaried payroll to service provider.

· Establish accounting policies and procedures.

· View the accounting department as an integral component of the company, not as a stand-alone ancillary unit.

3. Metrics and Measurement

· Ensure timely closing and compilation of the month/semi-annual/year-end financial statements.

· Ensure data accuracy by supporting department managers with timely weekly updates of expense activity.

· Assist departments with the correct identification and measuring of department activity relative to the company as a whole.

4. ERP System Utilization

· Can demonstrate competency with standard computing functions and standard Microsoft software; to have a thorough understanding of major accounting software and ERP applications.

5. Company Policies and Procedures

· Complete all responsibilities in a timely and professional manner while maintaining quality and confidentiality.

· Participate in implementing Company strategic plan goals, quality program initiatives. Support lean enterprise techniques, good housekeeping practices, immediate corrective action, and other company-wide initiatives aimed at improving productivity and increasing profitability.

· Participate in and support the Company’s professional development and training activities.

6. Other duties may be assigned.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

The individual in this position should have proof of education and/or work-related experience with:

Budgeting

Accrual methods of accounting

Double-sided entry systems

Manufacturing cost accumulation and accounting

Research and development tax credits

Tax liabilities, limitations and structure

Financial ratios for business profitability

Banking and financial management

Ability to read and write effectively in English and to create reports for interested parties at all levels summarizing the company's financial position.

Ability to effectively present financial information in one-on-one and small-group settings to department managers and Company employees as required.

Ability to provide leadership to accounting personnel and other Company colleagues through personal example and a positive attitude in all situations.

Education

Required: B.S. degree (or equivalent) in finance, accounting, or a related field.

Preferred: CPA with a strong background and experience in manufacturing, auditing, and Activity-Based Costing.

Experience

Minimum of 5 years of supervisory and financial experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment. Must have experience with ERP software and a demonstrated understanding of the MS Office Suite of productivity tools. Must have strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize assignments. Knowledge of GAAP Accounting Standards and International Financial Reporting Standards.

Pay: $85,000.00 - $98,000.00 per year
