Full Job Description

Company: Rapidly growing, locally owned and operated home services business specializing in Electrical, Plumbing, HVAC, and Generator services

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Controller to lead and scale our accounting and financial operations as we continue our rapid growth. This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for the day-to-day financial management of the business, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and strong cash flow while supporting strategic decision-making across multiple trade lines.

The ideal candidate is highly proficient in QuickBooks, comfortable in a fast-paced environment, and experienced with service-based businesses. Experience with Service Titan is a strong plus, particularly within Electrical, Plumbing, HVAC, and Generator operations.

Key Responsibilities

Own and manage all accounting operations for a multi-trade home services business, including:
Cash flow management
Accounts Payable (AP)
Accounts Receivable (AR)
Bank and credit card reconciliations
Prepare accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial statements
Calculate, file, and ensure compliance with state sales tax, county, and local tax requirements, including trade-specific tax considerations
Manage capital expense planning for vehicles, tools, equipment, generators, and other major assets, including tracking, depreciation, and forecasting
Oversee payroll processing for field technicians and office staff, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations
Administer and manage 401(k) plans, including coordination with providers, employee contributions, and compliance reporting
Manage expense tracking, approvals, and cost controls across Electrical, Plumbing, HVAC, and Generator divisions
Establish and maintain strong internal controls and accounting policies to support growth and scalability
Support budgeting, forecasting, and job-costing analysis by trade line to improve profitability
Provide financial insights and recommendations to ownership and leadership to support operational efficiency and expansion
Serve as the primary point of contact for external partners, including CPAs, payroll providers, benefits administrators, and tax agencies

Qualifications

5+ years of accounting or financial management experience, preferably within Electrical, Plumbing, HVAC, Generator, or other home services businesses
Extensive experience with QuickBooks (required)
Service Titan experience strongly preferred
Strong knowledge of sales tax, payroll tax, and local tax compliance for service-based businesses
Experience with capital expenditure planning, fleet management, and asset tracking
Proven ability to manage cash flow in a growing, multi-division organization
High attention to detail with strong organizational and analytical skills
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-growth environment
Excellent communication skills and a proactive, hands-on leadership style
