Job Title: School Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP)

Campus: Amigos Por Vida – Friends For Life Public Charter School (PreK–8)
Reports To: Special Programs Director
FLSA Status: Exempt

Position Summary

The Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) provides diagnostic, therapeutic, and consultative services to students with speech, language, voice, fluency, and communication disorders. The SLP collaborates with educators, families, and related service providers to support students' communication skills, academic achievement, and social-emotional development within the educational environment.

Essential Functions Evaluation and Assessment

Conduct comprehensive speech-language evaluations for students referred for special education services.
Administer, score, and interpret standardized and non-standardized assessments.
Identify communication disorders that adversely affect educational performance.
Prepare written evaluation reports and recommendations.
Participate in eligibility determination and ARD/IEP meetings.
Complete reevaluations in accordance with state and federal regulations.

Direct Therapy Services

Develop and implement individualized speech-language therapy plans.
Provide direct and indirect therapy services in individual, small-group, and classroom settings.
Address articulation, language, fluency, voice, social communication, and other communication disorders.
Utilize evidence-based practices to support student growth and progress.
Monitor student performance and revise interventions as appropriate.

IEP Development and Implementation

Develop measurable annual goals and objectives aligned with student needs.
Track and document student progress toward IEP goals.
Provide progress reports as required by district and state guidelines.
Ensure services are delivered according to IEP requirements.

Consultation and Collaboration

Collaborate with teachers, administrators, parents, and multidisciplinary teams to support student success.
Provide recommendations for classroom accommodations and communication supports.
Consult regarding assistive technology and Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) systems when appropriate.
Participate in problem-solving teams, MTSS/RTI meetings, and student support initiatives.

Compliance and Record Keeping

Maintain accurate records of evaluations, therapy sessions, progress monitoring, and service logs.
Ensure compliance with IDEA, Section 504, FERPA, and Texas Education Agency regulations.
Maintain confidentiality of student records and information.
Complete all documentation within required timelines.

Professional Responsibilities

Attend ARD meetings, faculty meetings, and professional development activities.
Maintain current state licensure and professional certifications.
Stay informed of current research, best practices, and legal requirements related to speech-language pathology.
Support campus initiatives that promote student achievement and communication development.

QualificationsRequired

Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited university.
Current Texas Speech-Language Pathologist License.
Knowledge of special education procedures and eligibility requirements.
Strong assessment, intervention, and report-writing skills.

Preferred

Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA).
Experience working with PreK–8 students in a school setting.
Experience serving bilingual and culturally diverse student populations.
Knowledge of AAC devices and assistive technology.
Experience supervising Speech-Language Pathology Assistants (SLPAs).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Strong understanding of speech and language development.
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills.
Ability to establish positive relationships with students, families, and staff.
Strong organizational and time-management skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining compliance requirements.

License/Certification:

Texas Speech-Language Pathologist License. (Required)
