Join ABM Industries as a Tax Associate on our Sales & Use team and become part of a collaborative tax team supporting one of the nation's leading facility services companies. In this role, you'll support ABM's outsourced sales and use tax compliance process by coordinating with third-party service providers, assisting with technical tax research, supporting audits, maintaining tax data, and partnering with stakeholders across the organization. At ABM, the Sales & Use Tax Associate plays an important role in supporting the Company's indirect tax compliance and audit functions. Reporting to the Tax Manager, this position serves as a key liaison between ABM's business teams and external compliance providers to help ensure timely, accurate filings while contributing to process improvements, tax technology initiatives, and technical research.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Support ABM's outsourced sales and use tax compliance process by gathering, validating, and providing tax data to third-party compliance providers for timely return preparation and filing.

Review prepared sales and use tax returns for completeness, accuracy, and reasonableness before filing, escalating questions or issues as appropriate.

Coordinate with third-party compliance providers to resolve filing questions, data discrepancies, and jurisdictional issues.

Prepare tax payment requests, wire transfers, and supporting documentation associated with sales and use tax filings.

Maintain and update the indirect tax compliance calendar to ensure filing deadlines are met.

Respond to taxing authorities regarding notices, information requests, and audit inquiries, coordinating with internal stakeholders and external service providers as needed.

Research sales and use tax laws and provide technical guidance on business transactions, taxability determinations, and exemption issues.

Maintain exemption certificates and internal taxability codes using third-party tax technology solutions.

Prepare sales and use tax account reconciliations and assist with month-end and quarter-end close activities.

Support indirect tax audits by gathering documentation, preparing schedules, coordinating responses, and assisting with audit resolution.

Identify opportunities to improve compliance processes, reporting, internal controls, and tax technology while performing other duties as assigned.

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.

Minimum of 3 years of multi-state sales and use tax experience, or 2 years of sales and use tax experience plus 2 years of general accounting experience.

Experience coordinating with third-party compliance providers or shared service organizations is preferred.

Experience researching multi-state transaction tax issues.

Experience working with state and local taxing authorities.

Experience with Vertex sales and use tax software preferred; Vertex O Series is a plus.

ERP experience such as Oracle or JD Edwards preferred.

Strong Microsoft Excel skills; PivotTables and VLOOKUP experience preferred.

Knowledge of multi-state sales and use tax laws and regulations.

Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet recurring filing deadlines.

Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across departments.
