Job Purpose:
At Josephinum Academy of the Sacred Heart, we measure success one student at a time, and we seek to provide an education that meets the needs of the whole child. Our teachers, who are directly accountable to the principal, are responsible for delivering core content and ensuring alignment with the Illinois Learning Standards and curricula best practices. They will have the opportunity to teach across the spectrum of their expertise and be supported in creating differentiated learning experiences while participating in departmental planning and professional development opportunities.
This position focuses on physical education, health, and athletics. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching high school physical education and health-related classes as well as serving as the Athletic Director for the school.
Job Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement daily lessons plans for students.
- Assist in the development of curriculum standards and mapping across the school.
- Develop common assessments, both formative and summative, that measure progress toward academic standards.
- Incorporate a variety of instructional strategies aimed at keeping classes focused from bell to bell and infusing a lasting desire to learn.
- Integrate technology effectively into the curriculum.
- Actively pursue professional development opportunities.
- Be open to constructive feedback on ways in which you can improve your classroom and curriculum.
- Ensure that students master grade-level standards.
- Maintain and communicate high academic and personal expectations for all students.
- Engage in effective and consistent classroom management for students and fellow faculty members by demonstrating respect for and adherence to learning, understanding, and implementing school-wide policies and classroom standards as established by leadership, the principal, Dean of Students, and/or Dean of Curriculum & Instruction.
- Develop, implement, and articulate an athletic program designed to build a sense of community among the student athletes, as well as a commitment to personal growth.
- Oversee the implementation of the school’s athletic programs including actively participating in conference meetings to ensure proper compliance; scheduling try-outs, practices, and games, in accordance with conference and IHSA rules; purchasing and maintaining equipment and uniforms; supervising all home games; and hiring and maintaining a positive relationship with all athletic coaches and officials.
- Manage the annual athletic budget.
- Establish metrics of success and evaluate them against the athletics programs.
- Monitor student-athlete eligibility on a weekly basis.
- Model the practices of a balanced and healthy lifestyle.
- Implement, refine, and enforce athletic policies congruent with an importance on Sacred Heart Goals 4 and 5 focusing on community as a Christian value and professional growth in an atmosphere of wise freedom.
- Maintain appropriate student information: medical records, athletic conduct codes, parent agreements, etc.
- Plan and supervise an athletic awards ceremony or banquet.
- Updates student/parent handbook, as well as the school’s Crisis Management Plan with appropriate changes.
- Partner with applicable team members for weekly updates (e.g., game dates, scores, etc.) on the applicable websites including but not limited to Josephinum website and athletic social media accounts.
- Engage with students by clearly articulating the athletic programs, requirements, procedures, and deadlines; enforcing the rules outlined in athletics code of conduct, as well as the consequences for breaking such rules; and monitoring students’ health and wellness progress and updating them about new health and wellness/athletic opportunities.
- Provide constructive feedback to your peers and support them in their teaching efforts.
- Engage your student’s families frequently to celebrate the successes and communicate the challenges.
- Participate in school activities including, but not limited to, faculty and department meetings, in-service programs, parent-teacher conferences, and other extra-curricular activities, as requested or approved.
- Be a flexible and cooperative member of the faculty and Josephinum community who is willing to collaborate on departmental and school goals.
- Be an active member of the Josephinum faculty and community by participating in extra-curricular activities to support the principal, co-workers, and/or students such as: serving on committees, advising clubs, attending school related events, and participating in school related activities that assist in building community and or knowledge.

Education/Skills/Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to develop a rapport with students and families and deliver standard based, culturally relevant curriculum.

Education/Skills/Qualifications (cont.):
- Ability to apply principles and practices of sound management and supervisory methods.
- Competence in a variety of computer applications, including Powerschool, word processing, databases, and spreadsheets.
Experience working in either a school, non-profit, or for-profit organization, with experience and interest in:
- Teaching high school subjects
- Classroom management
- Curriculum development and implementation
- Program development and management
- Bi-lingual
- LBS1 certified.
- ESL certified.
Teachers are expected to display critical thinking skills and abilities including but not limited to:
- Dynamic leadership skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Ability to analyze information and communicate effectively to a wide variety of audiences.
- Creativity to design and implement new programs and services.

Pay: $52,000.00 - $58,000.00 per year
