County-City Credit Union is seeking an experienced and motivated Assistant Vice President of Lending to help lead our lending operations and support our mission of providing exceptional financial services to our members and communities.
This position offers an exciting opportunity for a lending professional who enjoys a combination of leadership, consumer and mortgage lending, portfolio management, compliance oversight, and business development. The AVP of Lending position is intended to develop the knowledge, leadership skills, and operational experience necessary to support future advancement into the Vice President of Lending role while contributing to the growth, quality and performance of the lending department and mortgage and consumer loan portfolios.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
Loan Department Leadership
- Maintain comprehensive knowledge of Credit Union products, services, systems, and lending procedures.
- Assist with the development and delivery of loan training for staff, including procedures, compliance expectations, lending systems, documentation standards, and member service practices.
- Keep the Vice President and Senior Loan Officer fully informed of lending activity, portfolio trends, member concerns, compliance matters, operational issues, and recommendations for improvement.
- Assist in preparing monthly and quarterly reports for the Supervisory Committee and other internal reporting needs.
- Prepare, develop, and analyze relevant lending reports, including loan officer production, risk-based lending, high-priced mortgages, delinquent loans, charged-off loans, paid-ahead loans, and other reports necessary to monitor lending performance and risk.
- Stay abreast of changes in the industry, regulations, or market trends that could impact the credit union and discuss with Vice President and Sr. Loan Officer.
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and strategic planning related to loan growth, interest income, staffing needs, product development, and lending technology.
- Assist with vendor relationships, system enhancements, audit preparation, exam readiness, and follow-up on lending-related findings or recommendations.
- Provide leadership support to the lending staff by serving as a resource for complex loan questions, member escalations, underwriting guidance, and procedural consistency.
- Recommend, assist in developing, and support implementation of innovative lending programs, products, services, and process improvements for Credit Union; and support the ongoing maintenance, updates, and staff use of the programs, products, services and processes after implementation.
- Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and excellent customer service.
- Make suggestions for improvement of lending processes, efficiency, and customer experience.
- Assist in recruitment, onboarding, and training of lending staff.
Loan Underwriting and Approval
- Interview loan applicants and assist members throughout the loan application process. Ensure applications are complete and that all required disclosures, documentation, and supporting information are provided accurately, timely, and in compliance with applicable requirements.
- Obtain, review, and evaluate credit bureau reports, including verification of debts and account information. Analyze applicant qualifications, including debt-to-income ratios, collateral, creditworthiness, lending criteria, and ability-to-repay requirements for mortgage loans.
- Document loans within the Loan Operating System from application through closing and post-closing follow-up. Transfer approved loans to the core processing system and assist in overseeing loan-related computer processing, system accuracy, and procedural consistency.
- Originate, evaluate, act upon, and close consumer, home equity, and residential first and second mortgage loans, and serve as the primary mortgage loan officer as assigned.
- Review real estate appraisals to confirm that property guidelines have been followed and that final values are properly supported and documented.
- Request and review flood determinations to identify whether collateral property is located in a flood zone and provide appropriate disclosures and documentation to members based on the determination.
- Approve, deny, or recommend action on real estate and consumer loans within established lending authority and in accordance with policy, underwriting standards, and compliance requirements.
Compliance and Risk Management
- Maintain compliance with all applicable state and federal regulations governing mortgage, consumer, home equity, and other lending activities.
- Comply with all Credit Union policies and procedures and recommend enhancements to the Vice President and Senior Loan Officer as appropriate. Support oversight of the Loan Team to help ensure adherence to internal policies, procedures, and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Comply with all secondary market lending requirements, guidelines, and regulations, and assist in maintaining documentation and processes necessary to support secondary market activity.
- Assist in monitoring compliance with state and federal regulations applicable to Credit Union lending functions, including completion of assigned regulatory reporting and maintenance of appropriate documentation.
- Participate in annual lending policy review and assist with recommending updates to ensure policies remain current, effective, compliant, and aligned with the Credit Union’s risk tolerance and strategic goals.
Lending Portfolio Management
- Assist in managing and growing the consumer and mortgage lending portfolios.
- Assist in monitoring overall loan portfolio performance, including growth, delinquency, charge-offs, concentration risk, policy exceptions, and emerging trends, and provide recommendations to support sound lending decisions.
- Monitor delinquencies on real estate and consumer loans and take appropriate, timely, and compliant action to protect the Credit Union and support member resolution.
- Assist with collection activities for all loan types in accordance with Credit Union policy, regulatory requirements, and member service standards.
- Develop, prepare, and analyze reports necessary to support lending operations, compliance, production tracking, portfolio monitoring, and management decision-making.
Business Development
- Develop and maintain relationships with members, business owners and community partners, and generate new loan opportunities through networking and referrals.
- Identify cross-selling opportunities for additional product and service penetration.
- Recommend lending strategies and marketing opportunities to achieve organizational growth objectives and assist with implementation.
- Develop mortgage loan business through active participation in Jefferson and surrounding area business communities, trade associations, and community events in order to build referral relationships, increase loan activity, support business development goals, and enhance visibility for the Credit Union.
- Assist in the development, implementation, and evaluation of new lending products, services, procedures, and delivery channels.
OTHER DUTIES
- Assist members promptly, cheerfully, attentively, proficiently, discreetly and diplomatically, while striving to make every member feel glad they met with you.
- Resolve member account issues and provide accurate, timely, and professional lending-related information and assistance to members.
- Work collaboratively and professionally with all employees, departments, and teams to support Credit Union’s service culture, operational goals, and strategic objectives.
- Represent Credit Union at various community and credit union industry functions.
- Keep all member business and Credit Union security matters strictly confidential.
- Perform any other functions as required or assigned by the President and/or the Vice President and Sr. Loan Officer.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Five or more years of progressive lending experience in banking, credit union, or financial services.
- Leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
- Banking Certification or a Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, Accounting preferred.
- Comprehensive understanding of banking regulations and compliance requirements.
- Strong background in credit analysis and underwriting.
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to obtain and maintain Notary Public and NMLS Mortgage Loan Originator licensure, along with any other licenses, registrations, or certifications required by the Credit Union.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, core processing systems, and other lending-related technology.

Pay: $60,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
