Pay,Benefits, & Work Schedule

Health Department, Environmental Health Services Division
Pay Range: $23.98–$36.60 per hour
Work Location: 2400 Troost Ave
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. *Flexible schedule available after 1-year of service
Application Deadline: August 11, 2026

Limited term merit will last until March 15, 2029

Responsibilities

What you’ll do

Maintain frequent, professional communication with program applicants to gather required documentation and ensure timely qualification for lead hazard reduction services.
Conduct lead inspections and risk assessments in residential properties to identify lead-based paint hazards and develop rehabilitation work specifications in accordance with federal and state guidelines.
Generate detailed inspection reports and documentation using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat to support compliance, tracking, and decision-making.
Provide photographs and complete required forms to fulfill historical and Section 106 Environmental Review requirements.
Monitor lead abatement and construction activities to ensure work is performed safely, correctly, and in compliance with approved specifications.
Perform clearance dust wipe sampling and evaluate completed projects to confirm quality, completeness, and readiness for occupancy.
Participate in community outreach efforts, including presentations, health fairs, and educational events, to promote lead safety awareness and program participation.

Projects are completed safely, on time, and meet quality and clearance standards.

Qualifications

REQUIRES

An accredited Bachelor's degree in construction management, construction technology, sociology, engineering, architecture, energy conservation or a related field and 1 year of progressively responsible related experience in the applicable specialty; OR an equivalent combination of qualifying education and experience.
Must possess a valid state-issued driver’s license in accordance with the City of KCMO policies.
Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and post-offer physical examination as prescribed by the City.
Must possess and maintain either a building analyst certification as awarded by the Building Performance Institute as recognized by Department of Natural Resources within 24 months of hire or a lead occupational license for risk accessor from the State of Missouri Department of Health within 3 months of hire date.

Successful completion of a pre-employment criminal history/background check is required for all positions. Some positions require a post offer drug screen and/or physical.

If appointed, non-residents must obtain residency inside Kansas City, Missouri's city limits within nine months.
