Full Job Description

The Tenant Support Specialist will be responsible for the safety and security of the Rise at Yancy Street apartments and its tenants. The Rise at Yancy Street is a housing program for adults experiencing mental illness and/or chemical dependency issues who have a history of homelessness and hospitalizations or incarceration. This position will be working with a diverse population and must be sensitive to the culture, religion, language, age, gender, and sexual orientation of the population served.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Interact with tenants in the general milieu of Rise at Yancy Street apartments.
Respond to tenant issues as appropriate or as directed by the Housing Case Manager and/or Housing Supervisor and support building rules (i.e. tenant lock outs, maintenance emergencies).
Manage building/tenant security and de-escalate situations until resolved or a Supervisor and/or Housing Case Manager can respond.
Respond to emergencies, follow building / staff safety and emergency procedures according to Transitional Resources’ policies and call 911 when appropriate.
Monitor visitors to the property and check-in/out tenant visitors. Ensure visitors follow building rules and policies and remove unauthorized persons within Transitional Resources’ guidelines. Report any serious violations to Housing Case Manager and/or Housing Supervisor.
Staff the front desk, answer phone calls, monitor security cameras.
Document building activities, maintain log and provide Housing Case Supervisor with essential information pertinent to the safety of tenants and building operations.
Assist in maintaining tenant files, intranet folder and keep housing resource notebook up-to-date.
Direct clients where to find community resources (i.e. food bank location, metro bus schedules).
Provide tenants with information and resources regarding their rights under housing law as requested.
Open and close/secure community rooms according to established hours of operation.
Monitor common areas and grounds.
Set up and clean up for tenant activities.
May be required to perform light janitorial or maintenance duties as appropriate.
Monitor building and office supplies and restock as necessary.
Attend scheduled agency meetings and trainings.
Tolerate unruly client behavior.
A working understanding of Harm Reduction and Housing First Principles.
May be required to assume responsibilities or duties within the agency not specifically delineated in this job description.
Must be able to work on-site, remote work is not available for this position.

RELATIONSHIP WITH COMMUNITY AND CO-WORKERS

Contributes to cooperative working relationships with other Transitional Resources staff and with supervisors.
Engage in positive interactions with tenants, colleagues and individuals in the community, which sustain a beneficial and helping relationship with tenants and the surrounding community.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

At least one year experience in human services, preferably working with homeless adults, the economically disadvantaged, mentally ill or chemically dependent.
BA degree in social or behavioral science preferred.
Tenant property management experience desirable.
Basic understanding of homelessness and various characteristics of homeless adults.
Pass a State criminal background check
Must be able to walk up and down multiple flights of stairs and lift up to 30 pound if needed.

JOB CONDITIONS

Working conditions may include working alone, interruptions, and interactions with angry persons. This position may also require working in an environment where there may be exposure to blood, bodily fluid, and other potentially infectious material. Other exposures could include cleaning supplies, chemicals involved in pest control, paint, and other materials used in building maintenance.

COVID-19 REQUIREMENTS

The agency follows CDC and Washington State Department of Health’s guidelines in its measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Must be able/willing to wear a mask if needed during an outbreak of Covid19 at the program. Must be willing to work with clients who may be positive for Covid19 and may be unwilling to wear a mask.

WAGE & BENEFITS:

$32.91 per hour. Over-night shift, 12am to 9am, Friday through Monday. This is a non-exempt position.

Benefits include 22 paid leave days per year of service and 10 paid holidays (both pro-rated per fte); medical and dental insurance; long term disability insurance; voluntary participation in one of the Agency sponsored 403(b) retirement plans, FSA and AFLAC cafeteria plan.
