Full Job Description

Behavioral Support & Operations Response Specialist

Reports To: CEO, COO, and Clinical Director
Status: Full-Time, Hourly (40–50 hours per week)

Position Summary

The Behavioral Support & Operations Response Specialist is a leadership-level position responsible for providing direct support, behavioral crisis intervention, operational oversight, quality assurance, and administrative support across all residential homes and the day program. This individual serves as an extension of leadership, ensuring continuity of care, regulatory compliance, and the consistent delivery of high-quality, person-centered services.

This position requires a confident, decisive, and dependable professional who thrives in fast-paced environments, remains calm under pressure, exercises sound judgment, and is committed to maintaining the highest standards of care. Open availability is a condition of employment.

Primary Responsibilities

Direct Support & Operational Leadership

Provide direct support services across all residential homes and the day program as assigned.
Serve as the leadership representative during assigned shifts and ensure agency standards are consistently upheld.
Fill staffing shortages and respond to emergency staffing needs.
Maintain continuity of care while promoting a safe, structured, and person-centered environment.
Coach, mentor, and support Direct Support Professionals by modeling agency expectations and best practices.
Ensure assigned locations operate in compliance with agency policies, state regulations, and licensing requirements.
Assist clients with activities of daily living, transportation, community participation, medication support (as permitted), and daily routines.

Behavioral Crisis Response

Respond immediately to behavioral emergencies and crisis situations.
Utilize approved de-escalation and crisis intervention techniques.
Provide leadership and support to staff during aggressive or high-risk situations.
Complete all required incident reports accurately and within required timeframes.
Collaborate with the Clinical Director to implement and reinforce Behavior Support Plans.
Assist with crisis prevention planning and provide coaching following behavioral incidents.

Administrative & Compliance Responsibilities

Conduct quality assurance audits and compliance reviews.
Assist with staffing coordination and scheduling adjustments.
Review documentation for accuracy, completeness, and timeliness.
Maintain household and program inventories as assigned.
Assist with onboarding, orientation, and staff training.
Maintain electronic records and complete data entry accurately.
Support leadership with special projects and operational initiatives.
Prepare residential homes and program areas for internal audits and regulatory inspections.

Quality Assurance

Monitor residential homes and program areas for cleanliness, safety, and regulatory compliance.
Observe employee performance and provide coaching and guidance when appropriate.
Reinforce agency policies, procedures, and expectations.
Report operational concerns, compliance issues, safety risks, and maintenance needs to leadership immediately.
Promote professionalism, accountability, teamwork, and exceptional client care.

Required Qualifications

High school diploma or GED required (Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred).
Minimum of two (2) years of experience supporting individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (I/DD), Autism Spectrum Disorder, or Behavioral Health needs.
Demonstrated experience managing behavioral crises and aggressive behaviors.
Strong organizational, communication, leadership, and documentation skills.
Proficient computer skills.
Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
CPR, First Aid, and Crisis Intervention certification (or ability to obtain upon hire).

Preferred Qualifications

Leadership or supervisory experience.
Experience training and mentoring staff.
Knowledge of North Carolina I/DD regulations.
Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
High level of professionalism, emotional maturity, flexibility, integrity, and accountability.

Schedule Requirements

This is a leadership position with open availability required.

The successful candidate must be available and willing to work any shift assigned, including:

Days
Evenings
Overnight shifts
Weekends
Holidays
Emergency staffing assignments

Weekend, overnight, and holiday availability is mandatory and is a condition of employment.

This position also requires participation in the agency’s on-call rotation. Employees must be available to respond to emergencies, staffing shortages, behavioral crises, and other operational needs outside of regularly scheduled work hours.

Applicants seeking a fixed schedule or limited availability will not be considered for this position.

Physical Requirements

Stand and walk for extended periods.
Lift and move up to 50 pounds.
Safely perform approved crisis intervention techniques.
Assist with client transfers when necessary.
Drive agency vehicles as required.

Perform all other duties assigned by the CEO, COO, or Clinical Director to support agency operations.

Failure to maintain required availability, reliability, professionalism, or performance expectations may result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.

Pay: $24.00 - $32.00 per hour
