Full Job Description

Position Summary

The Unit Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day clinical operations of an assigned nursing unit within the skilled nursing facility. This position ensures the delivery of high-quality resident care while maintaining compliance with federal, state, and facility regulations. The Unit Manager provides leadership, supervision, and support to nursing staff, promotes positive resident outcomes, and serves as a liaison between residents, families, physicians, and the interdisciplinary care team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Direct and supervise nursing staff assigned to the unit, including Registered Nurses (RNs), Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs), and Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs).
Ensure residents receive quality care consistent with physician orders, care plans, and facility policies.
Monitor resident conditions and respond appropriately to changes in clinical status.
Complete and review assessments, documentation, and care plans in accordance with regulatory requirements.
Participate in resident admissions, transfers, discharges, and care conferences.
Collaborate with physicians, therapy staff, social services, dietary services, and other interdisciplinary team members to coordinate resident care.
Investigate incidents, accidents, and resident concerns and implement corrective actions as needed.
Conduct rounds to evaluate resident care, staff performance, and overall unit operations.
Assist with infection prevention and control initiatives.
Ensure compliance with all federal, state, local, and facility regulations, including Florida Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA) requirements.
Support quality assurance and performance improvement activities.
Provide coaching, education, and mentorship to nursing staff.
Assist with staffing coordination and scheduling to maintain adequate coverage.
Promote a positive work environment that encourages teamwork, accountability, and resident-centered care.
Maintain confidentiality of resident and employee information in accordance with HIPAA regulations.

Qualifications

Required:

Current, active Florida Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing.
Minimum of Two (2) year of nursing experience in a skilled nursing facility, long-term care, rehabilitation, or related healthcare setting.
Strong clinical assessment and leadership skills.
Knowledge of state and federal regulations governing long-term care facilities.
Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
Ability to effectively supervise and motivate nursing staff.
Proficiency with electronic medical records and clinical documentation systems.

Preferred:

Previous supervisory or management experience in a skilled nursing facility.
Experience with Medicare, Medicaid, MDS, and care plan processes.
Wound care, infection control, or quality improvement experience.

Physical Requirements

Ability to stand, walk, bend, lift, and move throughout the facility for extended periods.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.
Ability to respond quickly to resident emergencies.

Working Conditions

Skilled nursing and rehabilitation environment.
Frequent interaction with residents, families, healthcare providers, and staff.
May be required to work weekends, holidays, or additional hours based on facility needs.
