Town Administrator – Plainfield, NH

Ready to lead one of New Hampshire's most engaged and welcoming communities?

The Town of Plainfield is seeking an experienced Town Administrator to partner with the Selectboard and lead the day-to-day operations of our thriving Upper Valley community.

Nestled along the Connecticut River in western New Hampshire near Dartmouth College, Plainfield is a picturesque rural community that offers the best of small-town New England life. Plainfield is a vibrant Upper Valley community of approximately 2,500 residents known for its historic villages, engaged citizens, strong volunteer spirit, and commitment to preserving its rich heritage while planning for the future.

This leadership position oversees municipal operations, budgeting, human resources, facilities, capital planning, contracts, and community partnerships while providing leadership to department heads and serving as the public face of Town government.

You will work closely with the Selectboard and Town Clerk while supporting the Police Department, Fire Departments, Highway Department, Water Department, Facilities, Building Inspector, Tax Collector, Bookkeeper, and Planning and Zoning functions.

We are looking for a collaborative leader with experience in:

Municipal or public-sector management
Employee relations and management, including recruitment, retention, supervision, and performance goalsetting
Budget development and financial stewardship
Facilities and capital project oversight
Grant administration and contract management
Building strong relationships with employees, elected officials, businesses, and residents

Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to work with elected officials, staff, businesses, and the public

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree (or equivalent experience). Master’s degree a plus.
Seven or more years of progressively responsible management experience. Municipal experience desired.
Strong communication, leadership, and presentation skills
