Job Summary

The Recruiter-Background Investigator position is responsible for investigative work conducting comprehensive background investigations on candidates for sworn and civilian employment with the Department, in accordance with applicable law, departmental policy, and accreditation standards. The incumbent assists with patrol operations, represents the Department at recruitment and community engagement events, and provides support to other functions within the Support Services Division as assigned. The Recruiter - Investigator also prepares audit documentation and coordinates with sworn and civilian personnel throughout the background investigation process.

The scope of this position spans the full hiring lifecycle: recruiting and screening candidates through job boards, professional networking, and social media; conducting field investigations and in-person interviews with employers, coworkers, neighbors, and references to verify candidate history and character; and compiling detailed, legally defensible background investigation reports and case file documentation to support sound hiring decisions. This position also guides selected candidates through onboarding, maintains assigned Department vehicle, uniform, weapon, and equipment, and performs other duties as assigned.

Essential Qualifications

High school diploma or GED required, supplemented by a minimum of three (3) years of experience with a full-service law enforcement agency; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience sufficient to demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this position.
Certification as a Basic Law Enforcement Officer through the Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council (GA POST) is required.
Possession of a valid Georgia driver's license is required and must be maintained throughout employment.
Additional certifications may be required based on area of assignment.

Pay: $52,582.40 - $71,718.40 per year
