Job Title: Trauma Prevention Specialist

Work Status: Full-time

Reports to: Director of Community Awareness

Classification: Salary/Exempt

Mission: Established in 1992, ChildSafe is a nonprofit organization created to combat child sexual abuse in our community. Serving as Bexar County’s only Children’s Advocacy Center (CAC), we provide a continuum of care – including crisis management, case management, counseling and support services to child abuse survivors and their non-offending family members.

The goals of the agency and its multidisciplinary partners include the following: a recorded forensic interview; ensure the coordination of appropriate and thorough investigation and prosecution of sexual and physical abuse and neglect cases with public and private agencies; provide crisis intervention and on-going counseling; provide public education and professional training; and advocate for the child and family during the investigative process.

Basic Functions: The Trauma Prevention Specialist plays a vital role in enhancing ChildSafe’s Trauma Sensitive School Initiative. This individual is responsible for the planning, implementation, and coordination of program activities, fostering strong relationships with school administrators and staff to ensure the initiative's sustained growth and success. Additionally, the Specialist provides expert training and consultation to both school communities and general audiences on the critical elements of child abuse prevention, with a focus on trauma-informed approaches.

Responsibilities:

Program Planning & Implementation

Provide trauma-informed training and consultation to schools and community members, encouraging the implementation of preventative elements sensitive to the needs of children who have experienced trauma.
Deliver child abuse prevention curriculum to children ranging from Early Childhood through 12th grade, adapting content as appropriate for various age groups and settings.
Facilitate meetings with District/School Administrators to align program goals, secure necessary support, and ensure effective program integration.
Facilitate Trauma Team Meetings with designated individuals at each participating school, guiding discussions and supporting the development of trauma-sensitive practices.

School & Community Engagement

Recruit schools for participation in ChildSafe's Trauma Sensitive School Initiative and other prevention programs.
Provide training and education to community members, schools, and partners on foundational preventative elements and general awareness of child abuse and ChildSafe agency services.
Develop and maintain strong relationships with school administrators, staff, and relevant community stakeholders to foster collaboration and program sustainability.

Data Management & Program Evaluation

Prepare and maintain accurate records, reports, and statistics related to program activities, outcomes, and impact.
Administer assessment tools and collect evaluation data as required to measure program effectiveness and inform continuous improvement.
Track and report on key metrics related to training delivery, school engagement, and program reach.

Professional Development & Collaboration

Participate in regular peer review and supervisory review sessions, actively engaging in discussions to assess job proficiency and contribute to team development.
Stay current on the latest prevention and awareness trends, trauma-informed practices, and relevant literature in the field of child abuse.
Pursue ongoing professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge in trauma prevention, education, and community engagement.
Perform other duties as assigned to support ChildSafe's mission and program objectives.

Education/Skills/Training Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred
Preference will be given to knowledge about state law and TEA mandates on training for school personnel on child maltreatment training
Experience teaching or working with children or in a school setting preferred
Must have an acceptable driving record, valid driver’s license and vehicle insurance to meet agency requirements
Must pass criminal and child abuse registry background checks
Ability to multi-task
Can work independently with minimal supervision while keeping the Director apprised of activities
Must meet strict programmatic outcomes and deadlines
Must have an outgoing personality and professional demeanor
Knowledge of Bexar County school districts is a plus
Eagerness to learn new skills and take on increased responsibilities through the training process
Must be flexible to work occasional evenings or weekends and travel as required

Working Conditions/Physical Demands:

General office environment / various education and training facility environments
Must be able to sit and drive a vehicle 50% of the time
Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time
Needs to move about the office to access cabinets, files, office machinery including computers, copiers and printers
Needs sufficient mobility and strength to carry presentation materials including brochure and audio visual components
Operates a computer, projector and other office productivity machinery (e.g.: copiers and printers)
Will frequently position oneself to pack and unpack presentation materials in storage areas or for presentation locations
Occasionally lifts supplies and support materials weighing up to 30 pounds

Hours/Shifts:

This is a full-time, salary/exempt position. After hours and weekends for agency-related activities may be required. Shifts will be established within the following hours of operation:

Monday -Thursday: 8:00 am– 8:00 pm

Friday: 8:00 am – 4:00 pm
