The Safe and Healthy Schools Bureau believe that ALL students can become successful and responsible individuals who value and choose an active and healthy lifestyle.

Through leadership and teamwork, the Bureau advocates and provides support for schools and families to implement school health programs, and health and nutrition services. Through intra/inter and community agency collaboration, the Bureau works to promote healthier schools by providing professional development, technical assistance and resources to local education agencies. Schools are able to develop, implement and evaluate school health programs and activities, designed to improve instruction and increase student learning. Why does the job exist?

This position exists to support schools in improving school climate through comprehensive prevention and intentional student and staff well-being services and supports. This includes providing technical assistance and access to training on restorative practices, trauma responsive practices and approaches to reduce exclusionary discipline through addressing behavioral needs early. This role is designed to build environments and opportunities where schools are able to share best practices and model policies and approaches to supporting student through a lens of holistic wellbeing.
How does it get done?

Key responsibilities for this position include:
Development of guidance documents and model policies related to restorative practices, discipline and restraint and seclusion,
Provision of statewide and regional trainings and technical assistance,
Development and maintenance of professional learning communities on the topic of trauma-responsive and restorative educational practices,
Provision of research and evidence to educational leaders on alternatives to suspension,
Bill analysis and policy support on topics related to discipline and restraint and seclusion,
Grant administration activities for current and future grants,
Maintenance of a web page with innovate pedagogical practices,
Collaboration with relevant stakeholders to garner support for trauma responsive and restorative practices and
Identification of model schools and model teachers as demonstration sites.

Ideal Candidate

Minimum Qualification

Bachelor's degree in Education, Public Administration, or Business Administration and four (4) years of experience as a teacher and/or program administrator. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling eight (8) years may substitute for the required education and experience.
Employment Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico's Driver's License.
Working Conditions

Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, bending and reaching may be required. Some occasional travel is required for meetings and conferences.
