Full Job Description

We are seeking a reliable and empathetic caregiver to assist with daily tasks and provide emotional support for a client who is recovering from cancer. The ideal candidate will be compassionate, patient, and able to balance offering support with promoting independence, while respecting the client’s need for peace and quiet.

Responsibilities:

Mobility Assistance: Provide stand-by support during activities such as showering, dressing, and moving around the home. Ensure the environment is safe and free of obstacles.
Housekeeping: Maintain a clean, tidy, and quiet home environment, including daily tasks like cleaning the bathroom, mopping floors, and taking out the trash. Weekly laundry and light housekeeping are also required.
Meal Preparation: Assist with meal prep, including preparing breakfast and fresh juices. Encourage healthy eating and hydration throughout the day.
Emotional Support: Offer companionship with soft-spoken, gentle communication. Be attentive to the client’s emotional needs, providing reassurance and positivity when necessary.
Health Monitoring: Monitor the client’s well-being, watching for signs of fatigue, discomfort, or other changes. Report any concerns to family or healthcare providers. Ensure regular doctor’s appointments and treatment schedules (treatment every 3 weeks) are followed.
Transportation Assistance: Provide or arrange transportation to medical appointments, errands, or social activities, especially on treatment days.

Desired Qualities:

Empathy and Patience: A caring, patient, and attentive approach is essential, particularly as the client is managing ongoing cancer treatment.
Respect for Independence: Ability to provide assistance without intruding, respecting the client’s need for independence and dignity.
Attention to Detail: Keeping a clean, organized, and peaceful home environment is important.
Strong Communication Skills: Clear, calm, and respectful communication is crucial in offering emotional support and day-to-day assistance.
Flexibility: Adaptability is key, especially on treatment days or when needs change unexpectedly.

Requirements:

Experience working with seniors or in a caregiving role
Valid California driver's license and reliable transportation
Valid Home Care Aide Registration
TB Test
Compassionate and empathetic nature, with excellent communication skills
Ability to work independently and make decisions with minimal supervision
Reliable and punctual, with a strong commitment to maintaining confidentiality
