WERC is currently looking to fill the full-time position of Retention Coordinator
Hourly rate equivalent of pay - $33.28
A Background Check is required in accordance with California Fair Chance Act
- The office working hours are 8:30am to 5:00pm Monday to Friday (offsite schedule may vary depending on program needs).
- This is an optional hybrid position with at least three (3) required days working in-office and two (2) days working remote. Remote work is not required. The hybrid schedule is subject to change based on the needs of the business. We are in Pico Union/Westlake area, adjacent to Downtown Los Angeles. Remote work must be done with a dedicated workspace that provides the same confidentiality as that offered within the office environment. Candidates offered employment that choose to work remotely on any days offered are required, while working remotely, to have the non-public access necessary offices tools at their remote location to perform the essential duties and responsibilities. Examples are high-speed internet connection, printer, scanner and adding machine along with the necessary office supplies.
- Candidates offered employment will also have the option of working in the office with zero (0) remote days with all office supplies and equipment being provided within the office.
- For candidates offered employment, remote work is not allowed to occur more than 50 miles away from the business address without prior written approval.
- Candidates must be able to travel to sites within Los Angeles County to support training programs and a valid current unexpired California driver’s license and proof of auto insurance is required for this position.

Job Purpose
This position is core to the success of WERC’s workforce development mission of providing ongoing support to workers who have completed training and need assistance to continue their learning and long-term retention. This position is part of a team that works collaboratively to develop and deliver training and retention services. This requires excellent communication skills and an ability to work both independently and on a team. This position represents WERC with employees and employers so must exemplify the highest levels of integrity and dedication to the success of others.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain new and existing contacts within LA County departments, external community-based organizations, and other employer partnerships.
- Engage with new participants and Alumni on a regular basis by using innovative and engaging strategies.
- Participate in WERC’s efforts to create a culture that supports its mission and values using a participant centered approach.
- Develop and implement an organization wide strategy for participant retention based on market research findings and industry best practices.
- Determine key organizational objectives and tasks that support participant retention objectives and then communicate those objectives to staff and leadership.
- Evaluate the relationship between program outcomes and participant satisfaction, and recommend changes based on data collected.
- Identify and addresses participant needs through regular engagement with team members.
- Manage participant program surveys and makes recommendations to staff and leadership.
- Plan and carry out events and other initiatives for program participants.
- Lead the development and implementation of workforce projects that will support participant retention and mitigate burnout by providing cohort-style training and coaching.
- Conduct outreach and survey employers to understand their staff retention and burnout issues, and other workforce support needs.
- Develop training on the implementation of retention and recruitment strategies.
- Build partnerships with external organizations to strengthen workforce activities and attend external partner meetings and advisory boards.
- Collect and analyze data, track outcomes, maintain documentation, and prepare program reports.
- Support the research and development of grants to support workforce retention projects.
- Perform all other duties as assigned and required by management.
Essential Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Minimum (3) years’ experience in similar position or in directing training and retention programs. Additional equivalent work experience in a directly related field may be substituted for the degree requirement.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for multiple audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to engage and support program participants.
- Well organized and able to prioritize tasks in a busy environment
- Ability to work both independently and to work using a team approach in a joint labor/management setting.
- Proficiency in MS Office and multimedia software
- Commitment to WERC's core mission, values, and programming, including experience in organized labor, racial justice, public sector, and/or advocacy and services benefiting individuals who have experienced discrimination, poverty, homelessness, incarceration, and other barriers to employment.
- WERC prefers to interview candidates with lived expertise, including individuals who have been incarcerated or are otherwise justice-impacted, people who have experienced homelessness or housing instability, people who are or were previously Transition Age Youth, and people who have worked in fields where they have been underrepresented or experienced barriers to employment.
Additional Qualifications
- Excellent time management, scheduling, and planning skills.
- Experience in job training and/or other workforce development programs.
- Familiarity with Trauma-Informed Practice and working in a trauma-informed environment.
- Knowledge of community and governmental services and resources as they relate to individuals with barriers to employment.
- Experience facilitating meetings, providing classroom instruction, and other group settings.

The physical requirements indicated below are some examples of the physical aspects that the position must perform in conducting essential job functions:
- Persons performing service in this position will exert 10 to 20 pounds of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
- This type of work requires a combination of sitting, walking, and standing for periods of time.
- The noise level of the work environment is usually moderate to high. This is a fast-paced office and/or classroom environment that requires the ability to remain focused with a lot going on around you. The employee’s essential functions are conducted in a climate-controlled office.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to: perform each essential duty satisfactorily; help maintain a healthy work environment; initiate and maintain professional interactions and communication with WERC employees and others; and interact with all levels of organizational staff and management, outside auditors, community partners, and vendors.
