POSITION TITLE: Assistant Superintendent for Student Services
REPORTS TO: Superintendent
SALARY RANGE: $147,866 – $155,649
SUMMARY
The Assistant Superintendent serves as a key member of the Superintendent’s executive leadership team and assists in the leadership, coordination, and oversight of district safety operations that includes student services, communications, strategic initiatives, and organizational effectiveness.
The Assistant Superintendent supervises and supports district directors and departments to ensure alignment, accountability, communication, and effective implementation of district priorities, Board of Education goals, and the district strategic plan. The position supports a collaborative culture focused on student achievement, operational excellence, safety, innovation, and community engagement.
The Assistant Superintendent acts on behalf of the Superintendent as assigned and assists in leading districtwide systems and continuous improvement efforts.

Executive Leadership
- Serve as a strategic advisor to the Superintendent on district operations, organizational leadership, student support systems, and continuous improvement efforts.
- Assist in the development, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of the district strategic plan.
- Coordinate district initiatives aligned to Board goals, student achievement priorities, and operational effectiveness.
- Support long-range planning, organizational development, and district improvement efforts.
- Promote collaboration and alignment across district departments and schools.
- Utilize research, data analysis, and best practices to support decision-making and organizational effectiveness.
Leadership and Supervision
- Supervise and support assigned district directors, coordinators, and departments.
- Provide leadership, coaching, and support to administrators to ensure effective implementation of district priorities and operational expectations.
- Monitor departmental effectiveness, accountability, compliance, and continuous improvement efforts.
- Support recruitment, retention, leadership development, and evaluation of administrative staff.
- Foster a culture of professionalism, collaboration, innovation, and high expectations throughout the district .
Student Services and School Support
- Provide executive oversight and support regarding student services, student discipline systems, behavioral interventions, crisis response, and complex student matters.
- Support consistent implementation of district policies, procedures, restorative practices, and student support systems across all schools.
- Collaborate with building administrators and district leaders regarding student concerns, safety matters, and support services.
- Provide oversight related to student investigations, Title IX compliance, harassment complaints, discrimination matters, bullying concerns, and related student issues.
- Ensure district compliance with applicable laws, regulations, Board policies, and reporting requirements related to student services and student support.
- Support development and implementation of student handbooks, administrative guidelines, and district procedures.
- Coordinate district responses to significant parent, student, and community concerns as appropriate.
Communications and Public Relations
- Provide oversight of district communications, public relations, branding, and community engagement efforts.
- Support development of communication strategies that strengthen transparency, trust, and positive relationships with stakeholders.
- Coordinate communication efforts related to strategic initiatives, bond projects, safety matters, instructional initiatives, and district accomplishments.
- Assist with crisis communication planning and response efforts.
- Support positive partnerships with families, community organizations, media outlets, and stakeholders.
Safety, Security, and Operations Support
- Support districtwide school safety, emergency preparedness, and security initiatives.
- Collaborate with district and building leadership regarding emergency response planning, threat assessment processes, and safety procedures.
- Participate in district safety committees, emergency planning efforts, and related compliance activities.
- Support alignment between student support systems, school safety initiatives, and operational practices.
Athletics and Student Activities Leadership
- Demonstrate an understanding of the role of athletics, extracurricular activities, and student engagement in supporting the overall educational experience and school culture.
- Support district and building leadership in promoting positive student experiences, sportsmanship, safety, compliance, and community engagement within athletics and extracurricular programs.
- Collaborate with administrators and athletic leadership regarding student eligibility, behavioral concerns, supervision, risk management, and parent/community relations.
- Promote equitable access and opportunities for students across athletic and extracurricular programs.
- Support alignment between athletics, extracurricular activities, student wellness, leadership development, and strategic goals.
Additional Responsibilities
- Attend Board of Education meetings and prepare reports as assigned.
- Assist with district policy development and implementation.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
District liaison officers.
Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- Master’s Degree or higher, with a certification in administration
- Building level Administrative experience
- Educational leader with outstanding oral and written communication and
- Human Relation skills
- Knowledge of current educational issues
- Ability to work effectively with staff, students, and community
- Oriented to the use of research and data in making decisions
- Oriented to the use of instructional technology
- Ability to identify and model effective instructional behavior
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
- Valid Michigan Central Office Administrator Certificate or appropriate requirement for certification to practice as a Central Office Administrator.
- Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to public groups, and/the Board of Education.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
