General Manager – 1855 Saloon & Grill

Cottage Grove, WI

Job Overview

At 1855 Saloon & Grill, we pride ourselves on delivering exceptional food, genuine hospitality, and a welcoming atmosphere for our guests and community. The General Manager is responsible for leading all aspects of restaurant operations, ensuring outstanding guest experience, developing a strong team culture, and driving financial performance.

As the leader of the restaurant, the General Manager sets the tone for service excellence, accountability, and teamwork while maintaining operational standards and profitability. This position requires a hands-on leader who is passionate about hospitality, employee development, and building lasting relationships with guests and the local community.

Essential Job Functions

Direct and oversee all daily operations of 1855 Saloon & Grill.
Lead, coach, and develop front-of-house and management team members while fostering a positive, high-performance culture.
Conduct daily pre-shift meetings to communicate goals, promotions, service standards, and operational updates.
Partner with ownership and kitchen leadership on menu development, beverage offerings, seasonal specials, and promotional initiatives.
Monitor financial performance, including sales, labor costs, food costs, and overall profitability.
Develop and manage employee schedules to ensure proper staffing levels while controlling labor expenses.
Ensure exceptional guest service by actively engaging with guests, addressing concerns promptly, and building relationships with regular customers.
Lead by example and provide hands-on support during busy service periods, stepping into operational roles as needed.
Oversee inventory management, ordering, and vendor relationships to maintain product quality and cost controls.
Ensure restaurant cleanliness, organization, and maintenance standards are consistently met.
Drive revenue growth through community involvement, local partnerships, special events, and effective upselling strategies.
Maintain compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, including food safety, sanitation, and liquor laws.
Recruit, interview, hire, train, and retain top talent in partnership with ownership.
Conduct performance evaluations, coaching conversations, and disciplinary actions when necessary.
Hold team members accountable for service standards, attendance, appearance, and professionalism.
Promote a safe and healthy work environment for employees and guests.
Analyze operational reports and implement strategies to improve efficiency, guest satisfaction, and profitability.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Hospitality Management, Business Management, or related field preferred; equivalent restaurant management experience considered.
Minimum 3–5 years of restaurant management experience (preferably Fine Dining, Steak Houses, etc.) including leadership of high-volume casual dining, bar, or full-service restaurant operations.
Proven ability to lead, motivate, and develop teams.
Strong understanding of restaurant financials, including P&L management, labor controls, inventory management, and budgeting.
Excellent communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple priorities.
Experience with restaurant POS systems, scheduling software, and payroll processes.
Food Manager Certification and Responsible Beverage Server Certification preferred or ability to obtain.
Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds.
Availability of working evenings, weekends, holidays, and peak business periods as needed.

Compensation

Salary: $90,000 annually, based on experience
