A-LEAF Specialized Consulting is seeking an experienced Electrical Inspector to serve as an Owner’s Representative on a utility-scale solar and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project. This is an onsite position requiring strong field experience with electrical construction, inspection, quality control, testing, and commissioning activities associated with renewable energy projects.
The Electrical Inspector will represent the owner’s interests by monitoring contractor performance, verifying compliance with project requirements, documenting field conditions, and helping ensure electrical work is completed safely, correctly, and in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, codes, quality plans, and project schedules.
Position Type: Full-Time, Onsite
Schedule: Six weeks onsite followed by one week off
Rotation Details: The one-week rotation break is optional and unpaid if taken
Hours: Minimum of 40 hours per week while onsite
Pay Range: $40+ per hour, based on experience

Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the onsite Electrical Inspector and Owner’s Representative for utility-scale solar and BESS construction activities.
- Monitor electrical installation work and verify compliance with approved drawings, specifications, applicable codes, permits, and project quality requirements.
- Inspect underground conduit, duct banks, grounding systems, cable trenches, cable installation, terminations, equipment connections, and electrical enclosures.
- Support inspection of solar collection systems, combiner boxes, inverters, transformers, switchgear, medium-voltage systems, BESS equipment, and associated balance-of-plant infrastructure.
- Verify installation of electrical equipment, raceways, grounding, bonding, labeling, cable management, and protective systems.
- Monitor contractor workmanship, productivity, sequencing, testing, and compliance with approved installation procedures.
- Represent the owner during site walks, inspections, testing activities, contractor meetings, and coordination discussions.
- Identify electrical deficiencies, incomplete work, drawing conflicts, constructability concerns, and potential schedule or quality impacts.
- Document nonconforming work and coordinate with contractors, engineering teams, construction management, and quality personnel to support resolution.
- Review electrical drawings, single-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, cable schedules, equipment specifications, submittals, and vendor documentation.
- Support RFIs, field change documentation, redlines, as-built drawings, inspection reports, and turnover packages.
- Witness electrical testing, including insulation resistance, continuity, grounding, torque verification, cable testing, equipment testing, and functional checks.
- Coordinate with commissioning teams during energization preparation, system turnover, pre-functional testing, and startup activities.
- Verify electrical inspection and testing records are complete, accurate, and properly maintained.
- Participate in daily coordination meetings, safety meetings, construction planning sessions, and quality discussions.
- Provide clear daily and weekly reporting to project leadership regarding progress, deficiencies, risks, and contractor performance.
- Support punch-list development, completion tracking, final inspections, system acceptance, and project closeout.
- Maintain professional and objective communication while protecting the owner’s safety, quality, schedule, and contractual interests.
Required Qualifications
- Previous electrical inspection, quality-control, field engineering, or owner’s representative experience on utility-scale solar and BESS projects.
- Strong understanding of electrical construction methods, inspection practices, testing requirements, and quality documentation.
- Experience with low-voltage, medium-voltage, grounding, underground electrical, cable installation, terminations, transformers, inverters, switchgear, and associated equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, single-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, cable schedules, specifications, and testing procedures.
- Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code and other applicable electrical codes and standards.
- Experience monitoring contractor workmanship and documenting deficiencies, nonconformances, and corrective actions.
- Familiarity with RFIs, submittals, inspection and test plans, turnover packages, redlines, and as-built documentation.
- Strong communication, organization, reporting, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with project owners, contractors, engineers, commissioning personnel, quality teams, and construction management.
- Ability to work independently and make objective field observations in an active construction environment.
- Willingness and ability to work a six-week onsite rotation.
- Ability to work a minimum of 40 hours per week while onsite, with additional hours as project conditions require.
Preferred Qualifications
- Electrical license, engineering degree, electrical inspection certification, or equivalent combination of training and field experience.
- Experience serving directly as an Owner’s Representative or third-party electrical inspector.
- Experience with BESS containers, power conversion systems, auxiliary power systems, battery-management systems, transformers, and medium-voltage collection systems.
- Experience with utility-scale substations, generation tie-ins, transmission interconnections, or high-voltage facilities.
- Familiarity with NETA, IEEE, NFPA 70E, OSHA, and applicable testing and electrical safety requirements.
- Experience supporting commissioning, energization, lockout/tagout, system turnover, and operational-readiness activities.
- Familiarity with Bluebeam, Procore, AutoCAD, or similar construction documentation software.
- Experience working within EPC, owner’s representative, independent engineering, quality assurance, or construction oversight teams.
