Full Job Description

As we continue to grow, we are seeking a dynamic, highly skilled Kitchen Manager to oversee and lead the back of house operations at Causwells Menlo Park. This role demands exceptional leadership, creativity, and sharp operational skills to ensure that our restaurant delivers high-quality hospitality and service that reflects our brand's standards all while maintaining a strong team culture.

Position Summary

The Kitchen Manager oversees daily back of house operations at Causwells Menlo Park, ensuring consistent food quality, safety, and efficiency while supporting the culinary team's execution of the menu. This role works closely with the Executive Chef to manage kitchen staff, control costs, and maintain a safe, organized, and productive kitchen environment.

Key Responsibilities

Kitchen Operations

Oversee daily kitchen operations including prep, line setup, and closing procedures
Ensure consistency in food quality, plating, and portioning across all shifts
Maintain cleanliness and organization of all kitchen stations in line with health code standards
Monitor food safety practices including proper storage, labeling, and temperature logs

Staff Management

Supervise, train, and coach kitchen staff on technique, standards, and safety procedures
Create and manage kitchen staff schedules in line with labor targets
Support hiring and onboarding of new kitchen team members
Address performance issues and support disciplinary documentation in partnership with HR
Foster a professional, respectful, and collaborative kitchen culture

Inventory & Cost Control

Manage ordering and receiving for kitchen supplies and food inventory
Conduct regular inventory counts and monitor food cost against targets
Identify and reduce waste through proper prep planning and storage practices
Work with vendors to resolve order or delivery issues

Compliance & Safety

Ensure compliance with all health department and food safety regulations
Maintain required certifications (ServSafe or equivalent) for self and staff as applicable
Support workplace safety practices and incident reporting

Collaboration

Partner with FOH management on service flow, timing, and communication
Participate in menu meetings and support execution of new menu items
Communicate regularly with the Head Chef on kitchen performance

Qualifications

2+ years of kitchen management or sous chef experience, preferably in a full-service restaurant
Strong knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards
Experience with inventory management and cost control
Ability to lead and motivate a team in a fast-paced environment
Proficiency with restaurant management systems (Toast POS, Cut & Dry, Restaurant 365)
ServSafe Food Manager certification (or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire)
Flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays

Physical Requirements

Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs
Ability to work in a fast-paced kitchen environment with exposure to heat and sharp equipment
