Join Our Dietary Team: Cook at Shaw Mountain of Cascadia

Location & Culture
Become a part of Shaw Mountain of Cascadia, a Skilled Nursing Facility located in the heart of Boise. Dietary Cooks are responsible for preparing and serving meals in accordance with physician orders, resident preferences, food safety standards, and established dietary guidelines. This role requires the ability to work independently, maintain kitchen sanitation standards, and ensure meals are prepared accurately and served on time.

Who You Are

Job Skills & Qualifications
Foundational: High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Ability to obtain and maintain required food safety certifications and Food Handlers Permit in accordance with state regulations.

Preferred Experience: Previous cooking or food service experience preferred; long-term care or healthcare dietary experience strongly preferred. Experience preparing therapeutic or modified texture diets is a plus.

Your Role & Responsibilities

Food Preparation & Service

Prepares meals for residents in accordance with established dietary guidelines
Follows IDDSI diet guidelines and resident diet orders
Utilizes standardized recipes to prepare menu items
Ensures meals are prepared and served at proper temperatures
Reads and accurately documents resident meal selections
Serves meals and snacks accurately according to menu and diet orders
Uses proper portion control utensils during food preparation and service
Assists with meal service and snack preparation as assigned

Food Safety & Documentation

Uses proper food handling and food safety procedures at all times
Labels, dates, and stores food according to established policies
Accurately records food temperatures, refrigerator/freezer logs, and other required dietary documentation
Reports temperature discrepancies or food safety concerns promptly
Uses food supplies efficiently to minimize waste

Kitchen Sanitation & Equipment

Maintains a clean and organized kitchen and work area
Performs cleaning assignments using approved cleaning chemicals and procedures
Operates kitchen equipment according to manufacturer and supervisory instructions
Maintains equipment in safe working condition and reports concerns promptly
Maintains the security and cleanliness of the kitchen

Safety & Teamwork

Uses proper infection control and workplace safety practices
Works cooperatively with staff in all departments
Interacts respectfully with residents, families, and visitors
Completes tasks according to established schedules
Maintains reliable attendance and punctuality
Assists with training or guiding team members as needed
Communicates suggestions or concerns regarding food service operations, recipes, equipment, or procedures to the supervisor

Requirements

Licenses/Certification:
Food Handlers Permit, if required per state regulations.

Physical Requirements: Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, lift and carry up to 50 pounds, push/pull carts, bend, stoop, and safely work around hot surfaces and commercial kitchen equipment

NOTE: Federal Child Labor Laws do not permit employees younger than 18 years of age to work with or repair, adjust, or clean power-driven machines such as meat slicers and commercial mixers. Therefore, individuals must be at least 18 years of age to be employed in this position.

Additional Information:
Must be available to work weekends and holidays as scheduled.

Employment is contingent upon successfully completing all required pre-employment screenings, including background checks, in accordance with state and federal regulations.
