Full Job Description

We're a family-owned residential plumbing company in Fort Lauderdale. This is the seat that keeps the office running: the phone, the board, the permits, and the money that's still owed to us.

You won't be alone in the office — there are other people here and we back each other up. But this role owns its own work and finishes it without being chased.

What the job actually is

1. Answer the phone and book the job. Homeowners call because something is leaking, clogged, or dead. Half of those calls book themselves. The other half are the ones that pay you — the caller shopping three companies, the one who "just wants a price," the one who isn't sure it's worth fixing. You ask the right questions, set real expectations, and build enough trust in ninety seconds that they stop calling around. We give you the specials, the service-call discount, and the authority to use them without asking permission. Everything goes into Workiz (we'll train you).

2. Dispatch. You decide which plumber gets which job — where they are, what the job is, how urgent it is, what it's worth. You keep techs moving, customers updated, and the board honest.

3. Save the sale. Our tech gives a price on site, the customer says no. That call comes to you. You listen, find the real objection (it usually isn't the number), and make it work — an adjustment, a different scope, a payment option. Same when someone's upset about a job. You're the one who turns it around. Most people can't do this part. We pay a bonus on it.

4. Permits. All online — [LauderBuild, Broward County ePermits, and the surrounding city portals]. You submit the applications, upload what's needed, track status, chase what's stuck, and tell the field when something's approved or when an inspection is scheduled. If you've pulled permits for a roofing, A/C, electrical, or general contractor before, you already know this work and you'll be running it in a week.

5. Accounts receivable. Some invoices don't get paid. You call those customers and collect — politely, persistently, and without burning the relationship. You keep the aging list current so nothing sits for ninety days because nobody looked. There's a bonus on what you bring in.

6. Keep the office moving. Calling suppliers to check whether a part is in stock, placing orders, ordering off Amazon, following up on what hasn't arrived, general office tasks. Small things, but they stop jobs cold when nobody handles them.

The part that separates people in this job

Most of the day is manageable. Then there's a stretch — sometimes twenty minutes, sometimes an hour — where an invoice needs to go out, a tech isn't answering, and a customer wants a better price, all at once.

When that happens, the permit you were working on goes down. Phone first, every time. When the rush clears, you go back and pick the permit up exactly where you left it — without anyone reminding you it exists.

That's the actual skill: switching fast, then coming back. If you're the person who needs a quiet room and one task at a time, this will make you miserable. If you keep your own list and nothing falls off it, you'll do well here.

What you need

Fluent English and Spanish. Both, on the phone, every day.
Phone experience where somebody measured you — booking rate, conversion, collections, retention, appointment setting. Home services is the best fit (plumbing, HVAC, electrical, garage door, locksmith, appliance, restoration, roofing), but call-center sales, a save desk, or a collections desk translates fine.
Genuinely organized. You keep your own list, you finish what you start, and things don't fall through when the day gets interrupted. We're not going to follow up on your follow-ups.
Comfortable asking people for money. Firm, friendly, not apologetic about it.
Composure. Three things at once, and you still sound calm to the person on the phone.
Reliable and on time. When this seat is empty the phone rings into nothing, and we've already paid for that call.

Nice to have, not required

Permit portal experience — [LauderBuild, Broward ePermits], or any county/city system
Workiz, ServiceTitan, Housecall Pro, Jobber, or similar
Any plumbing vocabulary — the calls repeat themselves, you'll have it in two weeks
Haitian Creole
