Full Job Description

Medicina Familiar Medical Group

We seek a compassionate Medical Assistant for our growing healthcare organization who serves to make an impact on the lives of our patients. We are a family practice clinic who provide critical care to underserved populations by using innovative tools and working closely with community partners to improve patient health: building a pathway for positive change in our communities. The MA will perform various clerical duties relating to the provision of care in the front office. Under the supervision of the Clinic Manager, the Medical Assistant is responsible for providing basic assisting of care to patients under the direct supervision of a licensed medical staff member (e.g. medical doctor or physician assistant).

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assists the Clinic Manager with maintaining patient flow including receiving/greeting patients; locating charts via EMR system; checking/making appointments; answering the telephone; and referring patients to appropriate person.
Comply with department policy and procedures.
When called upon, takes action(s) necessary to maintain smooth patient flow and informs Clinic Manager of issues affecting the ability to deliver timely patient care within industry standards
At the direction of a licensed medical professional, performs basic nursing procedures as needed to maintain proper flow including Checking/recording patients’ vital signs o Phlebotomy o Collection/labeling of laboratory specimens in accordance with laws and policies o Packages and sends specimens in the specified manner for transport or storage o Administering immunizations o Assisting doctors with examinations and other procedures relating to direct patient care
Maintains complete and accurate patient records, including entering data into the computer, ensuring proper documentation of all procedures.
Attends and actively participates in all team and staff meetings and related continuing education programs.
Performs a wide variety of clerical duties including preparing routine correspondence, filing, photocopying, faxing, and answering the telephone and directing calls as needed.
Receives and treats all patients with the utmost respect and professionalism.
Promote a positive working relationship between providers and health plans.
Responsible in providing a pleasant and professional customer service experience to all external and internal customers.
Maintains and ensures we are fully stocked with all medical supplies.
Performs other duties as assigned by the Operations Director and/ Medical Director, in the absence of the Clinic Manager

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Medical Assistant training and certificate of completion.
A minimum of 2 consecutive years’ experience working as a Medical Assistant experience/skill.
CPR certification: Adult, Child, Infant including obstructed airway Working knowledge of Clinic policies and procedures.
Basic clerical skills, including the use of a personal computer.
Familiarity with HIPPA regulations and an ability to maintain absolute discretion over highly sensitive patient information.
Very effective people skills including oral communication skills.
Ability to work effectively with people of diverse cultures, ages and economic backgrounds.
Personal & Professional Qualities o Punctuality, Creativity, Self-motivation.
Professional appearance and conduct o Conceptual and “big picture” understanding.
Able to function independently under time constraints.
Willing to learn and develop new responsibilities and skills o Good organization, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. Must be detail-oriented and able to work autonomously but also as a team member.
Should have strong communication and customer service skills and respect for confidentiality

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Fluent in Spanish
Knowledge of practice management software (EMR)
Fluent with processing Health plan Eligibility
Knowledge of Medi-Cal managed care and the referral and authorization process
Experience with Family Practice a plus

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $21.00 - $25.00 per hour
