Full Job Description

Role and Responsibilities

A strong candidate for Medical Reception needs to balance a variety of duties in our fast-paced surgical group at Southwest Idaho Ear, Nose & Throat. They are responsible for interacting with and assisting patients and guests in a healthcare setting, facilitating access to quality patient care and healthcare professionals, and managing administrative tasks for the medical team.

In brief, a Medical Receptionist’s responsibilities include:

Creates a welcoming atmosphere when greeting visitors and patients to the clinic, providing a strong customer service focus and the ability to be a team player
Liaises between medical departments with discretion and professionalism, keeping providers, nurses, medical assistants, and any other related staff abreast of patient details
Schedules patient appointments correctly according to doctor availability and established protocolFacilitates recordkeeping and communication, accurately obtaining patient identification and insurance information, scanning and indexing documents to the patient's electronic medical record per protocol
Follows established check-in and check-out procedures in a timely and friendly manner
Verifies patient insurance eligibility, and checks the validity of referrals and authorizations
Processes payments after treatment, verifying patient financial records, and collecting appropriate insurance copayments
Performs all duties within HIPAA regulations and guidelines, protecting patients’ right to confidentiality
Participates in quality improvement activities including data analysis, implementing recommendations, evaluating changes and outcomes
Ensures the reception area is well-maintained, neat, and clean
Perform other reasonable assignments as assigned

Required Qualifications

High School Diploma/GED (or higher)
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Teams, Outlook, Word, Excel)
Excellent documentation, written and verbal communication, and computer skills
Strong organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail
Ability to efficiently achieve objectives and multitask with minimal supervision
Willing to be a team player
Professional and pleasant manner and appearance

Preferred Qualifications

One (1) year of medical office experience with a strong emphasis on customer service, computer skills, and phones or completion of a medical receptionist or equivalent training program
Experience utilizing an electronic medical record (EMR) system
Working knowledge of medical terminology, HIPAA regulations, ICD, and CPT coding (highly advantageous)
Bilingual speaker
