Full Job Description

We are a faith‑based, mission‑driven church seeking a detail‑oriented and trustworthy Financial Coordinator/Bookkeeper to manage all aspects of our financial operations. This role is essential to supporting our ministries, stewarding donor generosity, and ensuring financial integrity across the church.

Position Summary

The Financial Coordinator/Bookkeeper is responsible for all financial functions of the church, including bookkeeping, GAAP‑compliant accounting, fund accounting, contribution tracking, financial reporting, banking, budgeting support, and internal controls. This role works closely with the pastor, staff, and finance committee to provide clear, accurate, and timely financial information.

Key Responsibilities

Accounting & Bookkeeping

Manage full‑cycle bookkeeping: AP, AR, payroll coordination, journal entries, and bank reconciliations
Maintain the general ledger and ensure accuracy of all financial records
Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
Complete month‑end and year‑end closing processes
Monitor cash flow and assist with budget development and tracking

Church & Nonprofit Financial Management

Manage fund accounting, including restricted, unrestricted, and designated funds
Process weekly contributions and prepare donor giving statements
Ensure compliance with IRS regulations for charitable contributions
Support annual audit or financial review
Maintain internal controls and financial policies

Systems & Reporting

Use accounting software (QuickBooks Online or similar) to manage financial data
Use church management and other online software (e.g., ICON for contribution tracking, Bill.com for Accounts Payable)
Prepare financial reports for leadership, committees, and the congregation
Maintain organized digital and physical financial records

Administrative & Operational

Manage vendor relationships, contracts, and W‑9 documentation
Coordinate payroll with external providers
Support staff and ministry leaders with budget questions
Communicate financial information clearly and professionally

Qualifications

Required

3+ years of bookkeeping or accounting experience
Strong understanding of GAAP accounting
Experience preparing financial statements and reconciling accounts
Proficiency with QuickBooks (or similar accounting software)
Intermediate to advanced Excel skills
High level of integrity, confidentiality, and professionalism

Preferred

Experience with fund accounting or nonprofit accounting
Experience working in a church or ministry environment
Familiarity with church management systems (ICON)
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field

Personal Qualities

Trustworthy and discreet with sensitive financial and donor information
Organized, detail‑oriented, and able to work independently
Strong communication skills—able to explain financial concepts in plain English
Mission‑minded and supportive of the church’s values and ministries

Pay: $26.00 - $30.00 per hour
