Full Job Description

Position Summary

The Sales Manager owns Treatment Technology’s water and wastewater customer relationships and is responsible for retaining and growing the book of business. This is a relationship-driven, individual-contributor role that combines disciplined account management with new business development. The Sales Manager protects and deepens existing accounts — municipalities, special districts, and treatment facilities — by understanding each customer’s treatment process, anticipating their chemical needs, defending pricing with value, and ensuring every commitment is delivered on spec and on time. At the same time, the role pursues new customers and expands product lines within current accounts to grow overall volume and margin. Over time, Treatment Technology intends to grow this role beyond municipal and special-district accounts into industrial, mining, and oil & gas water treatment — new growth areas the company will invest in and support the Sales Manager to develop. The Sales Manager works closely with Customer Service, Operations, and the Technical Director to make sure what is sold can be delivered, and partners with the Owner on pricing strategy, key accounts, and growth targets. The role reports directly to the Owner, who currently leads sales.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Account Retention & Relationship Management

Own the water and wastewater customer book and serve as the primary point of contact for assigned accounts.
Build durable relationships with plant operators, public works staff, and decision-makers built on responsiveness, technical credibility, and trust.
Understand each customer’s treatment process and chemical applications well enough to anticipate needs, recommend the right products, and troubleshoot issues.
Proactively check in with accounts on a regular cadence rather than waiting for problems — catch service gaps, usage changes, and competitive threats early.
Monitor account health and usage trends; identify at-risk accounts and act before they lapse.
Resolve service issues quickly and visibly, coordinating with Customer Service and Operations to make the customer whole.

New Business Development

Identify, pursue, and win new water and wastewater accounts across Colorado.
Expand share of wallet within existing accounts by introducing additional products and applications from the Treatment Technology catalog.
Build and maintain a pipeline of qualified prospects and move opportunities to close.
Represent Treatment Technology at industry events, association meetings, and customer sites.

Pricing, Bids & Margin

Prepare and submit competitive quotes and bid responses, balancing win rate against margin.
Defend and communicate price increases with a clear value rationale; renew annual contracts and pricing agreements ahead of expiration.
Partner with the Owner on pricing strategy for key and competitive accounts.
Protect margin against commoditization by selling service, reliability, and technical support — not price alone.

Coordination with Operations & Technical

Work closely with Operations and the Warehouse to confirm that delivery commitments can be met before they are made to the customer.
Partner with the Technical Director on product selection, spec questions, and customer treatment challenges.
Communicate customer requirements, delivery windows, and special handling needs clearly to the internal team.

Forecasting, CRM & Reporting

Maintain accurate, current customer, opportunity, and activity records in the CRM.
Track and report on retention, growth, pipeline, and margin against targets.
Forecast customer demand and communicate it to Operations to support production and inventory planning.
Review year-over-year order trends and build account-level demand models to identify seasonality, growth, and at-risk revenue.
Monitor customer order cadence and flag lapses or declines in purchasing volume for proactive follow-up.
Track pricing realization against target margins by customer and product line, escalating erosion or off-contract pricing.

Safety & Compliance

Possess a thorough understanding of all applicable regulatory and certification requirements, including NSF/ANSI 60 and any products that fall under EPA authority
Follow safety protocols when visiting customer treatment facilities and Treatment Technology sites.

Qualifications

A relational, service-first mindset comes first — the ability to connect with customers, deliver excellent day-to-day service, and proactively solve their problems matters more than a traditional sales background. Direct sales experience is not required; proven success in B2B sales and account management (ideally in chemical, industrial, or technical product distribution) is a plus, not a prerequisite.
Ability to learn and discuss water and wastewater treatment chemistry and applications with technical customers.
Strong relationship-building skills and a service-first orientation toward retention.
Commercial discipline — comfortable preparing quotes, defending pricing, and managing margin.
Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently.
Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel regularly to customer sites throughout Colorado.
Comfortable growing account responsibilities beyond municipal and special-district customers into industrial, mining, and oil & gas water treatment as these become growth areas for Treatment Technology — training and support will be provided to build this expertise over time.

Physical Requirements

Ability to travel by vehicle to customer sites throughout the territory.
Ability to visit and walk through chemical treatment and treatment facilities.
Comfortable in environments that involve standing, walking, and exposure to a working chemical facility.
Ability to travel extensively by vehicle for day trips throughout the territory, with overnight travel limited to a few nights per month.

Compensation

This is a salaried, exempt position, with base pay set according to the candidate's skill, experience, and demonstrated track record in account management or sales. In addition to base salary, the role offers the opportunity to earn commission and/or performance bonuses tied to account retention, new business growth, and margin performance.
