As a Safety Officer, you will have the opportunity to support safety efforts for an assigned mechanical construction project, serving as the dedicated safety resource throughout all phases of the project. This position plays a critical role in promoting and maintaining a safe working environment for employees, project stakeholders, subcontractors, customers, General Contractors, and other jobsite visitors. Through daily field presence, safety observations, training, coaching, and proactive hazard identification, you will serve as a trusted safety partner, ensuring our teams have the resources, guidance, and support needed to safely and successfully execute project work while reinforcing SVM's commitment to protecting the health, safety, and well-being of everyone on the jobsite.
What You Will Do
- Serve as the dedicated safety representative for an assigned commercial mechanical construction project, overseeing day-to-day jobsite safety efforts throughout all phases of construction.
- Conduct daily jobsite inspections and safety observations to identify hazards and unsafe conditions.
- Monitor compliance with OSHA regulations, customer requirements, site-specific safety plans, and company policies and procedures.
- Utilize company safety software and reporting tools to document jobsite visits, inspections, observations, corrective actions, and project safety activities.
- Upload jobsite photos, maintain accurate records, and track corrective actions through completion.
- Review work activities to ensure proper use of PPE, fall protection systems, lockout/tagout procedures, equipment operation, housekeeping standards, and safe work practices.
- Build strong working relationships with field personnel, Foremen, Superintendents, subcontractors, General Contractors, and customers.
- Provide coaching and guidance to employees regarding safe work practices and company safety expectations.
- Conduct new hire safety orientations, site-specific orientations, toolbox talks, safety stand-downs, and other safety training initiatives as needed.
- Participate in project planning meetings and review upcoming scopes of work to identify potential safety concerns and high-risk activities.
- Assist with the development, implementation, and maintenance of Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs), Pre-Task Plans, permits, and other project safety documentation.
- Maintain project safety records and ensure inspections, certifications, permits, and compliance requirements remain current throughout the duration of the project.
- Respond to jobsite incidents, injuries, near misses, and safety concerns.
- Conduct incident investigations, gather documentation, interview involved parties, and assist with root cause analysis.
- Partner with project leadership and safety leadership to develop, communicate, and implement corrective action plans.
- Provide safety oversight for critical project activities and high-risk construction activities.
- Participate in customer, General Contractor, and project safety meetings as required.
- Support the Safety Department with other tasks and projects as business requires.
Education, Skills & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Construction Management or another discipline with an emphasis in safety highly preferred.
- 5+ years’ experience as a Safety Officer or similar role required, within the Construction Industry highly preferred.
- Prior experience as a Safety Officer in a warehouse or production setting a plus.
- Possesses a valid OSHA 30 certification highly preferred, CHST, ASP, CSP, OSHA 510, and OSHA 500 a plus.
- Demonstrated experience in interpreting federal, state, and customer regulatory requirements a must.
- Possesses excellent construction safety knowledge in fall protection, cranes, excavations, scaffolding, welding, PPE, heavy equipment, etc. highly preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, and Word) and construction accounting software highly preferred.
- Possesses a valid Driver’s License and willing to submit to a DMV report a* must*.
- Is willing to submit to a comprehensive background check required.
Compensation & Company Benefits Include
This is a full-time exempt position. The compensation for this role is $95,000 - $125,000 annually and is based on experience and skillset.

- This role may involve working in a variety of environments including active construction sites, commercial buildings, manufacturing facilities, data centers, and outdoor jobsite locations.
- This role may require working outdoors and being exposed to varying weather conditions including heat, cold, rain, wind, snow, ice, and other seasonal environmental conditions common throughout the regions SVM serves.
- This role may require operating a motor vehicle and traveling to jobsites in varying traffic and weather conditions, including inclement weather, to support project operations and safety initiatives.
- This role may require the use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including but not limited to hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, high-visibility clothing, fall protection equipment, respirators, hearing protection, and safety footwear when visiting jobsites or performing field activities.
