About Us

Vital Care of Orland Park is a specialty home infusion pharmacy serving patients across the Chicago area. We provide specialty infusion therapies in patients' homes and in our infusion suite. We are a locally owned location of a national pharmacy network, and we are building our core team as our patient census grows. This role is a chance to own a critical function from day 1, work directly with the owner and our pharmacist-in-charge, and grow with the business.

The Role

You are the front door of the patient journey. You own every referral from the moment it arrives until the patient is onboarded, verified, authorized, and scheduled, and you keep existing patients on service by tracking authorizations and coordinating renewals. This is a detail-heavy job where accuracy and speed directly determine whether a patient starts therapy with us or goes somewhere else.

What You Will Do

Process incoming referrals: intake demographics, prescriptions, and clinical documentation from physician offices
Run benefit verifications on both the pharmacy benefit and the medical benefit and document coverage, cost share, and network status
Run pharmacy test claims and interpret rejections
Prepare, submit, and track prior authorizations and appeals; follow up with payers and physician offices until resolution
Screen every patient for copay assistance, foundation support, and manufacturer programs before any quote goes out
Track authorization expiration dates and initiate renewals ahead of lapse
Communicate with patients about coverage, expected costs, and start-of-care logistics
Coordinate scheduling with our nursing partners and confirm start-of-care dates
Track referral-to-start timelines and proactively remove delays
Send confirmation and status updates back to referring physician offices
Escalate clinical questions and complex coverage problems to the pharmacist-in-charge or owner with a clear summary of what you have already tried
Serve as our day-to-day liaison to the central billing team: confirm claims go out on time, track claim status, and chase down anything stuck
Work denials and requests for additional documentation with the billing team until claims are paid; flag aging claims and recurring denial patterns to the owner
Verify that intake documentation is complete and billing-ready before dispense so claims do not stall after the fact
Keep referral and patient status current in our pharmacy management system
Flag payment delays, recurring denial reasons, and aging balances to the owner with a recommended fix

What You Need

2+ years of benefits verification, prior authorization, or intake experience at a specialty pharmacy, home infusion provider, infusion center, or specialty physician office (allergy/immunology, rheumatology, neurology, or GI a plus)
Working knowledge of the difference between pharmacy benefit and medical benefit claims
Hands-on experience with payer and PBM portals (Availity, CoverMyMeds, Express Scripts, Caremark, or similar)
Comfort on the phone with payers, physician offices, and patients
Strong attention to detail and follow-through; nothing falls through the cracks on your watch
Ability to work independently in a small-team environment

Nice to Have

Experience with IVIG, SCIG, or biologic infusion therapies
Experience with copay assistance and patient foundation programs
Medical or pharmacy billing, claims follow-up, or accounts receivable experience
CareTend or other home infusion pharmacy software experience
Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) license (not required)
Bilingual English/Spanish or English/Polish

Schedule and Compensation

Full-time, 30-40 hours per week, weekday daytime hours
Hybrid role: fully on-site during training, then a mix of on-site and remote days once you are running the workflow independently; you must be able to work from our Orland Park pharmacy regularly
$24-$28 per hour based on experience
Responsibilities and compensation expected to grow with patient volume; we are building our core team and want people who grow with the business
