Position: Commercial Litigation Legal Assistant/ Paralegal

About Dorf, Nelson & Zauderer:

Dorf Nelson & Zauderer LLP is a full-service law firm based in Rye, New York, serving corporate and individual clients across a broad range of practice areas. Our Commercial Litigation team represents clients in complex business disputes, contract litigation, and related matters at both the trial and appellate levels.

Job Overview:

We are seeking an experienced Legal Assistant/Paralegal with 3-5 years of commercial litigation experience in a full-time role to support our attorneys in Rye, NY. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and comfortable managing multiple active matters in a fast-paced litigation practice.

This position requires exceptional clerical and organizational skills to support attorneys in all aspects of case management, including handling case files, coordinating discovery, organizing physical and digital records, and assisting with document preparation and trial support. This role reports to the Manager of the Litigation Department and Supports a Commercial Litigation team consisting of the Managing Partner and 5 attorneys based in Rye, NY and CA.

Key Responsibilities:

· Assist attorneys with all phases of litigation, from case initiation through trial and post-judgment proceedings

· Draft, proofread, and format pleadings, motions, discovery requests/responses, and other litigation documents

· Manage document review, organization, and production, including e-discovery platforms

· Coordinate and track deadlines, court filings, and case calendars

· Prepare and file documents with state and federal courts (e-filing systems such as NYSCEF and PACER)

· Conduct legal and factual research to support case strategy

· Organize and prepare exhibits, trial binders, and witness materials

· Communicate with clients, opposing counsel, court personnel, and vendors as needed

· Assist with deposition and hearing preparation, including logistics and exhibit management

· Maintain case files and ensure compliance with firm document management protocols

· Assist in drafting legal documents and cataloging case correspondence.

· Prepare and maintain comprehensive case files and trial documents as needed.

Requirements:

· 3-5 years of legal assistant /paralegal experience in commercial litigation (law firm setting preferred)

· Paralegal certificate or equivalent combination of education and experience

· Strong knowledge of New York state and federal court rules and e-filing procedures

· Proficiency with e-discovery and document management tools

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills

· Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage competing deadlines across multiple matters

· Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook); familiarity with litigation support software a plus

· Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment

· High level of professionalism and discretion in handling confidential information

Preferred Skills

Proficiency with case management software (Clio, in particular).
