Full Job Description

About the Role

Our Brooklyn accounting practice is looking for an experienced Staff Accountant to handle the day-to-day accounting work for a portfolio of established clients. This is a steady, hands-on role: you'll keep the books accurate, payroll and sales tax filed on time, and returns prepared and ready for review.

You'll work alongside a small, collegial team and report to the firm's senior accounting staff. It's a good fit for someone who takes pride in doing careful, reliable work and being a dependable point of contact for the clients you support.

What You'll Do

Maintain full-cycle bookkeeping for a portfolio of clients - general ledger, AP/AR, bank and credit-card reconciliations, and month-end close.
Process payroll and related filings, and keep clients compliant and on schedule.
Prepare and file sales tax returns, including New York State and multi-jurisdiction filings.
Prepare individual and business tax returns for review and sign-off by our CPAs/EAs.
Handle 1099s, estimated payments, and routine year-end and compliance work.
Support day-to-day operations - client document collection, deadline tracking, and workflow.
Serve as a reliable, professional point of contact for client questions.

What You Bring

Several years of hands-on bookkeeping and small-business accounting experience; experience in a public accounting or multi-client firm a plus.
Solid experience with payroll and sales tax; New York filings a plus.
Experience preparing tax returns at the staff level (CPA/EA not required — your prep work is reviewed and signed off by our senior team).
Strong command of accounting software.
Organized, accurate, and detail-oriented.
Clear, professional client communication.

Russian language fluency is an advantage.

Compensation & Benefits

$63,000–$85,000 base, depending on experience.

This position includes a 90-day introductory (probationary) period.
