Overview

The Children's Ministry Director at Christ Church will provide vision, leadership, and coordination to cultivate a Christ-centered ministry that partners with families in making disciples of the next generation. They will serve alongside staff and volunteers to create safe, engaging, and gospel-centered environments where children can know, love, and follow Jesus.

At Christ Church, we believe children are a precious gift from God and an important part of the life of the church. As a church committed to loving God with our whole heart, fixing our minds on His truth, praising Him with every breath, and stewarding our gifts for His glory, we desire our children's ministry to reflect and reinforce those commitments. We want every child to experience the truth of God's Word, the hope of the gospel, and the love of the church in ways that are biblically faithful and age-appropriate.

Beyond leading the ministry, the Children's Ministry Director will invest deeply in people. They will recruit, equip, encourage, and develop volunteers, helping them grow not only as ministry leaders but also as disciples of Jesus. They will actively participate in the life of the church, supporting church-wide ministries, events, and discipleship efforts. They should be a humble leader, a gifted organizer, and someone whose life demonstrates a deep love for Christ, His Word, and His Church.

Responsibilities

Children's Ministry Leadership

Provide vision, leadership, and coordination for all children's ministry programs and environments.
Develop and oversee Sunday morning and other children's ministry gatherings in partnership with the Senior Pastor and church leadership.
Ensure all teaching is biblically faithful, gospel-centered, and age-appropriate.
Create welcoming, engaging, and safe environments where children are encouraged to know, worship, and follow Jesus.
Partner with parents by providing encouragement, resources, and support as they disciple their children.
Foster a ministry culture that values discipleship, biblical truth, joyful participation, and spiritual growth.

Team Development

Recruit, train, schedule, and coordinate children's ministry volunteers.
Develop and mentor ministry leaders, teachers, nursery workers, and classroom volunteers.
Create opportunities for members of the church to use their gifts in serving children and families.
Foster a team culture marked by humility, joy, unity, spiritual maturity, and servant-hearted leadership.
Help volunteers grow both as ministry leaders and as followers of Jesus.
Participate in fellowship events, ministry gatherings, and church-wide initiatives.

Children's Ministry Administration

Oversee ministry planning, scheduling, communication, and organization.
Ensure all classrooms, curriculum, supplies, and ministry resources are prepared and maintained.
Implement and maintain policies that provide a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for every child.
Coordinate volunteer scheduling, background checks, and training in accordance with church policies.
Steward ministry resources with excellence and oversee the children's ministry budget as assigned.

Qualifications

Be a faithful follower of Jesus Christ who loves God's Word, serves God's people with humility, and desires to help children and families know and follow Christ.
Demonstrate a clear calling to children's ministry and a passion for discipling the next generation.
Be deeply committed to the authority of Scripture and the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Support and embody the mission, vision, core commitments, and doctrinal convictions of Christ Church.
Have experience leading, organizing, and equipping volunteers in a ministry setting.
Relationally strong and able to recruit, develop, and care for volunteers and families.
Humble, teachable, dependable, and spiritually mature.
Have a heart for discipleship, leadership development, and partnering with parents in the spiritual formation of their children.
Be able to work collaboratively with elders, staff, and ministry leaders for the flourishing of the church and the advancement of the gospel.

We are a new church plant in Chesapeake, VA, but already have 10+ kids who will be with us starting from our first service in September. As we get ready to start services this fall, we are praying and looking for a Children's Ministry Director.
