Full Job Description

RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE

Vendor Management:

Manage inquiries from vendors and patrons of the market.
Assist with vendor recruitment, including finding the right balance of vendor types.
Create and update vendor application forms in the market software.
Manage all aspects of the vendor application process, including but not limited to collecting appropriate vendor compliance documents, insurance, risk waivers, rules, and regulations. Monitor food certifications and licensing.
Facilitate the jury process for artists.
Maintain accurate vendor records.
Manage vendor fees.
Schedule vendors, volunteers, youth activities, and entertainment.
Manage the market map and vendor locations each week.
Gather data from vendors including vendors’ sales, seasonal vendor surveys, farmers market surveys, contribute to metrics and data reports to support the civic, downtown, grant, and EDA partnerships.
Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations, including obtaining necessary city permits and monitoring vendors for compliance with market rules, city and state regulations, and updating vendors and Board members on changes to relevant state or local regulations.

Event Coordination:

Attend most markets where you’ll answer vendor inquiries, resolve vendor concerns, and mediate conflicts.
Coordinate with the Streets and Parks Department, Northfield Police Department, downtown businesses, Post Office, and the City of Northfield for use of Bridge Square.
Coordinate with any other groups or events scheduled to share Bridge Square with the market.
Manage the information booth on market days, including administering the food access programs.
Assist with purchasing food from vendors and delivering it to the food shelf for the Farm to Families program.
Ensure safety at the market by implementing the disaster plan, contacting emergency services, and making severe weather determinations.
Prepare and organize the trailer and the market equipment.
Hire, train, organize, and coordinate the logistics crew.
Hire, pay, and manage the weekly entertainment.
Assist with planning and coordinating the vendor information sessions, vendor appreciation event, and the annual fundraiser.

General Responsibilities:

Facilitate the poster art competition, including distributing posters around town.
Check email and respond to emails in a timely manner.
Attend trainings that benefit the market.
Provide monthly reports to the Board and other reports as requested.
Attend monthly board meetings and executive committee meetings.

About Us:

Riverwalk Market Fair (RMF) is an open-air Saturday market located along the beautiful Cannon River in historic downtown Northfield, Minnesota. The summer Saturday markets host 60 vendors weekly with locally grown produce, artisan foods, and a juried selection of artwork. RMF also holds a winter market from the week before Thanksgiving to the week before Christmas with 35 vendors featuring crafts, gifts, food, art, and more. Each Saturday provides a different mix of special events, musical entertainment, and activities for the whole family. RMF operates under the direction of a volunteer board of directors and is financed by vendor fees, grants, local sponsorships, and the City of Northfield.

Qualifications:

Availability on most Saturdays, mid-May through mid-December, from 7 am – 2:30 pm
Computer skills including Excel, Google Docs, Microsoft Suite, and ability to learn market software
Driver’s license
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds

Additional Information and Requirements:

This is a direct hire position with a monthly stipend. The weekly time commitment is 10 hours per week depending on the season and distribution of responsibilities. The Assistant Market Manager must be available on most Saturdays during the summer and most of the rest of the work can be done remotely.
The Assistant Market Manager will use their own phone, computer, vehicle, office supplies, internet, etc.
On Saturdays the market runs 9am-1pm (RMF staff are onsite 7am-2:30 pm)
The Assistant Market Manager will be supervised by the Market Manager.
